KSP 64bits on Windows (this time, it's not a request)
Raven. replied to Lilleman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Holy crap on a stick I cannot use the words I wanna use. There is a performance difference; there's no lag where it was previously lagging. It's smooth. The only bug I've noticed is a brief graphical glitch when navigating from the Main Menu to the KSC. Environment Visual Enhancements is working fine along with a bunch of other mods, such as RemoteTech 2. I'm gonna post my specs, as 64 bit KSP runs like a champ on this machine: Intel Xeon E3-1230 (comparable to i7-2600K, in fact, almost the same chip) 16 GB DDR3-1333 memory 2 x 300 GB Velociraptor hard drives in RAID-0 AMD Radeon HD 7950 Graphics card Windows 7 Professional with Directx 10 and UEFI boot -
KSP 64bits on Windows (this time, it's not a request)
Raven. replied to Lilleman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No, you will not. The only benefit you will see from this is the ability for KSP to address more than 4 GB of RAM. This is critical if you are running an absurd amount of mods, like me. But, if you do not run any mods, or do not have the memory to take advantage of it, then this will do nothing more than introduce more bugs. -

That works. Just as long as we collect data to get an idea on a failure rate. -
KSP 64bits on Windows (this time, it's not a request)
Raven. replied to Lilleman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm going to try this tonight. Lilleman, may I make the suggestion that a poll be added to the OP with two options; 1- I tried the 64 bit KSP on Windows and had no or minor issues (minor meaning issues that had simply workarounds or fixes). 2- I tried the 64 bit KSP on Windows and had major, game breaking issues. This should help the developers for both KSP and Unity out quite a substantial bit, especially considering that we're now running QA for Unity. -
Most part cfgs, included modded part cfgs, already have a cost entry. My assumption is that .24 will actually start using this value.

K3|Chris, that is very excellent work. Awesome job!

I don't see why it would be considered cheating. So to answer your question, no it's not cheating. Payload is simply the "stuff" that is detached and put into a final orbit. Such as a communications satellite for example. If it doesn't detach, it's not payload. Thank you for taking the challenge.

Either that or introduce "throttle groups" that are are tied to a "master throttle."

Well, I have to agree with Sparky. When I first registered on the forums here it took me all night to figure out where the private messages were. After a while I figured out that it was under the notifications entry. Back when I was helping run a smaller forum back in the days of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, there was a dedicated "inbox" button. This was running SMF forum software on a Nearly Free Speech host. Great forum software for the user, as it had a rather simple bar with the inbox and the user control panel on the top left side. But, it was a pounding migraine of an admin panel, as it took a rocket scientist to figure out the admin panel.

Possibly. I think an art pass would be really nice for Minmus. Although I think that other places could use the art pass before touching Minmus up.

[0.25]KSP Interstellar (Magnetic Nozzles, ISRU Revamp) Version 0.13
Raven. replied to Fractal_UK's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I have a question about the uranium and thorium resources in Interstellar. Are the resource deposits generated at random, or are the resources always located in the same general area from save game to save game? -
Biomes on Minmus and Kerbin are broken
Raven. replied to DeadMG's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
There's a few things to take into consideration. For one, KSP is an incomplete game that is still in an alpha state. There's going to be balance issues, especially considering that there are aspects of career mode not yet introduced, such as budgets. Yes, you can build a big, very large lander that can mine Minmus in one go. But... With budgets, you might not be able to afford that large lander until later in the game. Especially if it is not reusable. Like people have mentioned, additional planets will soon have more biomes. When this happens, there will be a much larger pool of science points available. Also count the fact that Squad has planned (but have not said anything about in a while) additional planets that would add even more science points. So on balancing science points, the jury's still out. And they're going to be for a while. -
Nice job, I like that shuttle. Here's the breakdown on the score: Altitude Score: (((500.165 (periapsis)+500.829 (apoapsis))/2) + 600) * 0.1 = 110.0497 Payload Score: 4.332 * 100 = 433.2 SOI Score: 0 Total Score: 1000 (Completion) + 110.0497 (Altitude) + 433.2 (Payload) = 1543.2497 The awards are as follows: The Piggyback Distinction: The shuttle launched piggybacked upon an external fuel The Highflier Distinction: Achieved an altitude higher than 250 km. The Ace Distinction: The shuttle was a manned shuttle.

Streetwind, do you have the RLA ion engines pack? I have that pack (in fact, I have an entire downloads folder) if you need it.
-
I still have the zip file chilling in my downloads folder. I'm wondering that, since there's no license information, if we can't just go ahead and throw it up onto Curse or Dropbox?
-
Well, here's what we got: Altitude Score: The semi-major axis was ((133.246 km + 75.1 lm)/2) + 600 = 704.174. The altitude score was 704.174 * 0.1 = 70.4174. Payload Score: The payload score was 1.165 * 100 = 116.5 SOI Score: 0, the shuttle stayed in Kerbin orbit. Total Score: 1000 (Completion) + 70.4174 (Altitude) + 116.5 (Payload) = 1186.9174 The "BLT" shuttles as you described them, are always a grey area. Really they boil down to a judgement call. In this particular case, I'm giving you the Jebidiah Distinction with emphasis on BLT Shuttle design. Also, the shuttle earned: The Squad Distinction: The shuttle was completely stock. The Ace Distinction: The shuttle was a manned shuttle. The Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot Distinction: The shuttle, should had by all rights crashed and burned. mojobojo, that is a very nice shuttle. I've been waiting for a while for someone to build a shuttle based on the HL fuselage from B9, as the potential payload score is nuts with that mod. One thing though, I need the final periapsis and apoapsis of the payload, along with the weight of the payload in tonns. Interestingly enough, I've had similar trouble with the IR mod. The example shuttle in this challenge was suppose to have a smaller arm made from the newer IR rework parts. The arm would behave until reentry, in which case it would cause the shuttle to list to one direction (not a good thing with FAR). I think Zodius, the guy making the new models, just recently released a new strut that is also a decoupler that's meant for the purpose of securing an IR arm during flight.

Starstrider42, you are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you. If there's anything I can do, then let me know. -

That's good to hear. I look forward to hearing from you. Is the 1.4 release going to have all the new features that Cilph was talking about earlier? -

Raven. replied to Cilph's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
There's a download link here: https://github.com/Cilph/RemoteTech2/releases EDIT: Well poopie, that's a source download, not a release like I thought it was. Alright, let me take a look at licensing to see if we can redistribute. EDIT2: Redacted because I didn't read the fine print. -

Is there an alternative download link, considering that Spaceport is going down within the day? -
B9 is my personal favorite, although while we're waiting for the author to update it we're having to use a patch in order to make it work with the current version of KSP. KW Rocketry is another personal favorite of mine. Environmental Visual Enhancements (EVE) is another must have.
-
Yup. It needs some work and redesign in order to go for anything else (it tops out at 550 m/s and it can't haul crap). It's really a pure blooded personal carrier.
