  1. Hi All, So I'll start by saying I'm a die-hard Kerbal fan with 800+ hours into the game. Having said that I'd like to offer some feedback about the 1.0 release. My feelings on this matter are mixed. In general, I think the game is much harder now. For a long time Kerbal fan this is OK (maybe even desirable), but think about if you were just coming into the game as a new player. KSP has lost its fun sandbox-style appeal, and become more of a hardcore simulator. You should almost change the happy-go-lucky little Kerbal portraits with grim, sterm faces. Because Kerbal is serious business now! Kerbal 1.0 is absolutely an entirely different game that previous versions. Would you recommend the game to a friend now? Does the game now appeal to the average video game player? I'm not sure, to be honest. It certainly appeals to the hardcore space sim crew, but maybe not so much to the average person anymore. And that makes me a little sad. New Aero model: Honestly, I think the old aero/heat model should be the default in the game. And the new one should be a 'realism' setting that you enable. The average person or someone new to Kerbal is just going to say "This is hard", and go play something else. Their spacecraft is going to blow up due to overheating and they won't ever be able to figure out why. And so they will quit the game. (You can only monitor thermal information by turning it on in Dev mode, which is horrible). Career mode: Career mode is excruciating now. My other save games broke with weird issues so I decided to start a new game. The early tasks are extremely difficult and you only get a pittance of science from the contracts. The contracts are ridiculously hard even for an experienced KSP player, and often flat out impossible in the early game. Test a jet engine before I have air intakes? Activate an SRB at 90,000 meters? Ferry around tourists on Kerbin before I have jet engines? They also seem to want you to sacrifice your craft sometimes. (i.e. Fly by the Mun or be on an escape trajectory while activating a ridiculous part that will make craft recovery impossible). Trying to get to the Mun (with no intercept information btw) I went to do something simple like transfer fuel in orbit and I couldn't because I apparently need 475,000 to upgrade the R&D building before I can transfer resources. And I cant solve the problem with fuel hoses and external tanks because I dont have fuel hose tech yet. Bases and Construction Still no construction in space? NASA certainly wouldn't be where we are today if that were true. The only way to build on space stations is to use docking ports, which often seems like a kluge. Why should I have to deliver a new girder attachment with solar panels and attach it with a docking port. It just seems weird. I also have trouble comprehending how something so basic as landing pads couldn't be offered in a 1.0 release. If you build an outpost on another planet or moon, you would have a landing pad. Some place for transports or passenger craft to arrive and debark. The only way to refuel or service craft is to try to use docking ports. This is very unwieldy on the ground. Why do we not have the ability to make landing pads with resource transfer capability?? Or runways?? Want to explore another planet with an airplane? Maybe fly a rocket plane on Eve or even a jet on Laythe? You really can't because there is no way to refuel it. That is unless you try to dock your plane with some custom tanker design you have on the ground using a docking port, which is ridiculously unwieldy. Give us some damn landing pads with resource transfer! Bugs Obviously there are some huge issues with fairings, heat shields, parachutes, and temperature models. Plenty of other threads on those so I won't discuss. Anyways, thanks for reading.
  2. So opening the parachute at 25,000 meters puts a 27G load on the spacecraft, but the astronaut and spacecraft survives and everything is fine. Nothing is damaged or breaks up. But if I use the heatshield, I die..... Go figure.
  3. Ok this is really dumb. You don't even need a heat shield, you just have to open your parachute at 25,000 meters and all is well. The drag slows you down to a couple hundred meters per second before it even opens. If you try to do it the right way and use the heatshield your spacecraft turns upside down. Plus if temperature is an issue now, why can't I see what temperature my stuff is? I should be able to right click on a part and see it's temperature right? And if I open the Flight Events log screen with F3, you'd think one of the stats listed on the right would be 'Highest Temperature'. Right??
  4. Very interesting, I had no idea. Thanks! It brings up an interesting question though. Should the camera be based on what the human (or Kerbin) eye would see, or the lens of a camera?
  5. This is an absolutely fantastic package that I can't do without anymore. In fact its been that way for like a year now. One comment though. Do you think you maybe went a little over the top on the solar lens flares in this last release? And why are they octagonal instead of round?? Thanks and keep up the good work!
  6. This looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to get out there and check out the new moons and planets. Dumb question though. How do I set the launch site back to the Kerbal default? I don't see it in the list along with the others.
  7. So I absolutely love the game, and have 700+ hours into it. Here are some things that continue to puzzle me, and that I'd like to see further development on. Contract briefing text -Am I the only one that despises that dynamically generated briefing description text for contracts? It's just annoying, and honestly kind of dumb. I don't know if the Devs were trying to be funny or something. But it's horrible. Is it just supposed to be nonsense filler? I find it continuously brings out a negative reaction in me when I read them. Seems hokie. Unfinished cockpits IVA view -Is this a bug I'm experiencing, or are some of the cockpits still unfinished? One of them has a blank bulkhead in front of you where the window should be. And unless I'm mistaken one of the new MK3 ones is just a black screen. Larger xenon tanks -Why still only the two xenon tanks Landing gear -Why still only Small Landing Gear for airplanes? Seriously? Where's the medium and large? Construction in space -Still no way to do assembly in space or on outposts except to use docking ports?? Science module IVA -Still no IVA on science module?? Docking or Landing Pad feature -I'd love to make an airport or spaceport with easy refuel capability. This is sorely missing. Why can't I make a landing pad on my outpost on the moon or another planet. When a ship lands there I get fuel transfer capability to the structure the landing pad is connected with. How am I supposed to fly planes around Eve or Laythe when I can't refuel them without some crazy docking port contraption. We need landing pads/landing strips! Kerbal POV view in stations -This is something that might take significant development. But how cool would it be to fly around inside your space station and go through the tubes and modules etc. You could possibly program something that would operate like an in-vehicle universe. Just have the Unity player spawn a mini in-station universe when you hit the Station IVA button or something. And your Kerbal could move around with jetback style controls inside the station. New Eve biomes - So the biggest crater on Eve isn't a special biome? I mean it takes up like an 1/8th of the entire planet. I managed to successfully land on the caldera island in the middle of it only to find out it was just Midlands. Bleh... Thanks for reading. Hope this reaches the Devs. Greg
  8. Some of this stuff I'd like to see in the game at some point. Some of it I wonder why it isn't in the game already yet. Every update I look for some of this stuff to no avail. 1) Why are the graphics still missing within so many cockpits? 2) Why is there still only one landing gear choice? (Small landing gear). Why aren't there medium or large landing gear? God knows we have enough rover wheel choices. 3) Why is there no solution to mount landing gear straight on a radial body? Your aircraft fuselage is curved. Trying to mount them to work correctly on wings or radial engine mounts is also very hard. 4) There should be a validation button for builds. How many times have you gotten all the way up to space (or even to another planet) only to find that your fuel hose isn't working because another part is clipping through it and has broken it. 5) Why is there still no way to do construction in space? Building pieces and lofting them into space and connecting them using docking ports feels like a hack. Why is there no robotic arm? 6) Why aren't there larger xenon tanks? I've built arrays of xenon engines for larger spacecraft and for space station orbital correction. And you end up with crazy part counts having to paste like 50 stupid little tanks on your vehicle. 7) Will we ever be able to fly around within a space station? Move our little Kerbals through the tubes, look out the windows, visit the different compartments? (Suggestion here, maybe you could build in a system to spawn a tiny Unity universe that is the inside of your space station or vehicle?) 8) Option for realism mode with consumables, air, water, waste, etc. (I know there are mods...) 9) Why do the new structural air intakes in the 0.25 update only pull in .3 of 1.0 worth of air at sea level? It goes down from there. Are they broken?? There was one more thing, I'll try to add later if I remember.
  9. Man, I love the little VTOL craft. Outstanding!
  10. Who says I can't have a 90 ton monster truck on the Mun? I was originally going to jettison the lander tanks and thrusters, but they make good ballast while driving around and tearin it up.
