I've been trying to bring a polar surveying satellite and a scanning rover to Duna in one payload. It's all good until I decouple my satellite with 2 Communotron 88-88 and the rover with a HG-5, a Communotron 16, and a Communotron 16-S suddenly goes "limited probe control". Isn't the rover supposed to have relay connections to my satellite? Or am I still supposed to have direct Kerbal link? I decided to stop derailing @_Rade's thread, and start a topic for the development of narrow-band scanner based rotors. It's impossible to fly with these, but they have infinite torque, because they are based on rotating colliders. Specifically, the rotating collider of the narrow-band scanner. The major parts of the narrow-band scanner rotor are the Jacket or Bracket or Holder, which locks the narrow-band scanners in place, and is attached to the gears, clutch, or to the wheels. The Clutch stops the infinite torque of the holder from breaking links in the rest of the machine, and is usually based upon wheels with the brakes active to ease in the torque. The Clutch is not necessary for some simple rotors, but for ones involving Gears they are usually necessary. The gears are used to increase the speed up from the ~1 rad/s of the Scanner. I have a question and maybe a mod idea. What is the point of stock narrow band scanner (the hexagonal thing) if it does not work on a planet without prior sweep by the big M700 scanner? 1) What sense does it make mechanics-wise? It's a scanner or it isn't? 2) What's the point of bringing one at all, if you already have the data from M700, and can see ore-rich areas? If you oh so wish to win few hours over few days of mining by moving to especially rich vein - there's surface detector for that. Won't it be a better idea to have two scanners different in mass and size, with different capabilities? Trading smaller size for data limited to area directly below your ship, compared to instant whole-planet scan by the big bulky polar scanner? -
Hi I've encountered a few frustrating bugs recently which has dented my enthusiasm somewhat when it takes hours of game play. Any help would make me happy again, as Kerbal is amazing. I have a stock version of kerbal updated from steam, no mods running on Windows 10. 1st Issue is with the survey Scanner. It simply doesn't ever transmit data back to the control centre. The scanner is in the correct orbit, works (as in shows ore deposits etc), has a antenna, I've tried 3 now and have given up. I've searched the forums but can only find something relating to remote Tech which I don't have? 2nd Issue is with scrap recovery missions falling through planets. The last one was Gilly and a mrk 1 can, you get there and off it goes sinking into the ground until destruction. Many Thanks if you can help!
