Hullo!

Hello! I registered on these forums years ago, but only started posting recently

I've been playing KSP since 0.21 and visited: Eve three times, Duna three times, Jool and its moons one time, and landed on the mun and minmus countless times.

So far I'm enjoying the forums

P.S. I plan to attempt eeloo next :sticktongue:

From what you say about your experience, you should make an SSTO to go there!

I tried going to Jool with one and an interplanetary module. I failed. I ran out of fuel... But, that was actually my first less-cheaty interplanetary mission! Damn, I always get off track...

From what Owen says of his experience, I'm sure he's learnt that SSTO stands for Single Stage To Orbit, which is a long way short of Eeloo ^^.

If you meant a single-stage transfer vehicle, then this is designed to deliver a set of SCANSat satellites to any planet or moon in the system:

If you meant a single-stage all the way from launch I'm not sure why you think anyone 'should' do such a pointlessly inefficient thing.

If you meant 'spaceplane' then why didn't you say so, and explain what use it would be on Eeloo?

Welcome out of the lurker-closet Owen :-)

Waaaaaaa? How the heck could I get an SSTO to eeloo much less Kerbin escape

Welcome to the forums fellow kerbonaut! Hope the Eeloo mission goes well :)

it's actually quite doable if you refuel in orbit. And of course not landing the entire SSTO also helps. A few designs that come to mind:

MkII or MkIII spaceplane with LVN atomic engines and a cargo bay containing a one or two-man lander: fly it to orbit on a combination of airbreathers and rocket engines (possible the nuke engines if you can manage it), refuel and use the nukes to go interplanetary. Go apollo-style with the lander and you shouldn't have too much problems :)

rocket-style SSTO that uses a couple big powerful engines to push a lander to orbit (the SLS-type engines come to mind), refuel in orbit, use nukes to get to eeloo and again do an apollo-style landing and return to mothership in orbit.

Never say a thing is impossible! It just hasn't been figured out yet :)

I endorse the lander in a cargo-bay idea. I've been doing that with my SSTOs and it's awesome. You need to understand docking well enough to come in sideways but it's pretty cool.

I'm plan on jacking a two stage nuclear motor rocket to orbit (well actually 2.5 because I don't think all my fuel from the last stage will be gone)

Wish me luck!
