Gagarin as we know was first ever man and Russian to flown into space

Glen was first 5th person in space and 1st American in orbit.

But I think that the success of the two men brought them a disservice, Gagrin never flew in space and died in the accident, and John Glen had to wait for his second chance almost 35 years.

While others their colleagues with their astronaut/cosmonauts groups flew many more missions.

I take my answer back...slightly. Yes, their international heroship did cause them to lose out on other flights. the Soviets were actually afraid to send Gagarin on any other flights due to fear of losing their hero. He eventually served as the backup crew for Soyuz 1 which tragically crashed. After the crash of Soyuz 1, Gagarin was permanently banned from training for and participating in further spaceflights. He later died in a routine flight.

Senator John Glenn did fly to space again, on STS-95.

He specifically decided to leave the program himself after Mercury to run for political office. Glenn would certainly have flown again had he remained in the program.
