Cutscenes! and more kerbals!

Recommended Posts

I was not thinking of great dramatic cinematics but maybe some flyby of a building that is being upgraded or a vessal that have been loaded befor a launch. And another thing i was thinking of was,why is the scientist in the archive and not the tech tree,it would be cool if he could be added and give the ksc scene a little more life, and maybe some radio operator in the tracking station as well.

Would like to here YOUR opinion,so let me know

Now,back to the VAB:cool:

I think it would be pretty cool to have a cutscene every time you are sending a new rocket to the pad! past that, may not be as necessary

Concidering most people reguarly test rockets by launching them, revert, make change, launch, repeat. That'd get boring fast

They should obviously be optional, but i do belive they would make the game feel a liltle more conected since the vessel magicly teleports from the VAB to the Launchpad,so if you would here some radiochatter and then a lillte cinematic of your craft and you feel all proud and fussy inside if you see your creation like that. But you should also be able to event turn them of in the options (or they could be of from the begining and could be turned on)

There could be a showCinematic variable stored with the craft file that could be cleared after the first launch and set manually in the VAB. It would be neat if the delivery platform changed for each level of the VAB. But it would be difficult to reconcile with the crazier designs at higher VAB tiers. IE, tier 0 could be a tractor pulling a trailer, tier 1 could be a tracked mobile launch system, tier 2 ???, tier 3 a shuttle/apollo megastructure launch system. But it wouldn't work with the giant 500t structures.

Other than actually animating something happening in game, I don't want to see it, period. My craft, as built, rolling out to the pad? I'd be fine with that… of course I use KCT, so I expect a roll out time, but I also warp through it. If time were meaningful in game, and perhaps you have multiple launch pads, then you could launch with another vehicle rolling out to a different pad...

I'd be fine with kerbals crawling around on buildings undergoing construction (upgrade) as well. I don't want to be switched to some view of them, they should juts be there, doing what they do.

An opening cinematic would be fine. Any more than that may be unnecessary.

I'd be okay with that, assuming it had a skip button and/or an always-skip configuration option. Anything more than that would result in me being very angry and writing a letter to Squad telling them how angry I am.

Cutscenes are a bit too much for every launch. How about just an artistic, styled image displayed during loading scenes?

Loading the KSC from main menu shows a sunrise with the flag waving or something

Entering the VAB shows Kerbals with clipboards and trucks walking/driving down a hallway toward the building area

Launching shows the VAB doors opening and trucks driving out with a tarp-covered rocket just barely visible under the door

Reloading an active vessel shows the Tracking Station dishes pointing towards the sky

I think it could be pretty cool. Better than the black, empty loading image we have now.

EDIT: To clarify, none of these would be animated. They would just be images, but with tons of lens flare! :P

Static, generic images for loading screens such as what Nikola7007 suggested would suffice.

What about the best of both worlds?

Pre-render the craft into an overlay, and add it to a very "Kerbal looking" loading screen.

i.e. Render the craft internally from the dorsal side or something, into a high-res overlay texture. Then have a bare-bones type of crawler/transporter animation that the craft overlay gets pasted onto during the loading screen.

It actually doesn't sound like much work, other than somehow making the texture in the first place for each loading screen craft. (And assuming long loading screens will be a thing later.)

I think it would be simpler to just show in the loading screen static image of kerbals running around preparing for launch in the other segments of the KSC. Like the ones in mission control, the ones in tracking centers, etc. Some are scrambling to do work, some would be preparing popcorn to watch the launch, some are placing bets on successful launch, some dusting off the "#of days without accident" board to hopefully add a number to it, etc. It would give more life to the game without taking too much effort.

My other idea would just be incorporating vessel viewer into the loading screen, showing us a wireframe structure of the craft we are about to launch, or the craft we are going to load into, along with some basic statistics like mass and sizes and current orbiting body, etc. The problem is that, for some truly massive things like space station, that wireframe structure view can look a bit weird.
