New KSP app

[modedit: link zapped]

  • Application Permissions:
    • Open network sockets
    • Access fine (e.g., GPS) location
    • Access information about Wi-Fi networks
    • Access coarse (e.g., Cell-ID, Wi-Fi) location
    • Access information about networks

Now why on Earth does it need GPS, location and network access? Think I'll pass, thanks all the same.

More than likely for whatever advertising partner they're with.

And since it's a commercial (ad-funded) attempt to cash-in on KSP, I've zapped the link until someone from Squad can have a look at it.

If it's not ad-funded, then the reason for those permissions is possibly even more shady, and an even better reason to pre-emptively zap that link!

I suspect half the time this nonsense is actually app programmers being slack and simply asking for all permissions instead of bothering to specify what they really need. Of course sometimes when something sounds this nefariously intrusive, it really is the case they don't have your best interests as a user in mind...

It's just more lines of code to ask for it. It's probably advertising-related or something that was peaking the interest of the guy who wrote it (i do this all the time) - of course it could be shady but i'd like to hope it isn't.
