Resource connectors while landed

Recommended Posts

With the new ISRU planned for 1.0 we need tools to connect and transfer resources from our miner/collectros/whatever while landed.

I know we can dock on surface, but it forces too many constraints while designing.

Back when I installed Kethane, installed KAS too, just for the resource pipes and connectors.

So I suggest some kind of connectors and pipes to be added to stock game for 1.0 (don't know if devs have plans on this). The way KAS manages them is very simple (for the player) and allows many different base/miner setups.

I'm not asking for KAS to become stock, I'm just asking for a similar way to manage pipe connections while landed. KAS is much more than these pipes, but the ability to connect two ships while landed is going to be very useful, even if we can't place connectors in EVA and need to build the ships whith them pre-installed.

Cheers,

I flinched at "Too many constraints" - in a game with practically none - but provided the Claw's various world-destroying bugs don't make it into the final release, it wouldn't break immersion too much to pretend it's got a fuel line in there somewhere.

I think he means with where the ground docking ports will be, That will restrain your crafts to match said docking port,

With upgrading facilities the port may change location which could invalidate your previous crafts

I tried to use the claw on the surface once and the test totally failed - the two rovers could not attach to each other. Could the claw be used like that? Do I have to ram the other craft? On a low gravity moon that might be an issue....

But using a claw will be very hard if you want to refuel a ship at a big ground base ! What is needed is an extensible thing that will allow players to transfer fuel without direct contact but through some kind of tubing that will let you transfer fuel if the 2 crafts are, say 5-10m away from each other :P

Unless they make the claw telescopic or extensible i doubt it will be used for that

I've been using docking clamps as "landing pads" to allow my karbonite tanker to connect with my karbonite extractor, but a hose would certainly make things easier. The extractor has already lost a third of its solar panels due to a single not-quite-precise-enough landing!
