Hello, forums!

As a new showcase topic, instead of a craft variety, this thread's about crafts that failed to work to their purpose, perhaps with explosions.

To start off, here's mine:

I engineered an R-7 Semyorka replica, to launch my Sputnik recreation. I used clusters for the first stsges, as with the real design.

I was essentially very proud of my work, although the part count isn't very friendly (315)..

Back when I was messing around with replica craft, I tried to build the Corvette from Miyazaki's Nausicaa. The original plane looks like this:

My version looks like this:

That was the original version I whipped up without any testing. Naturally, it exploded, and never even got off the ground. I burned through maybe seven design iterations, trying to nix a bunch of different structural problems, before I finally arrived at the final test version, which did get off the ground, but only barely.

I abandoned it, because it flew like a piano doesn't. It was a cool idea, but it just wasn't gonna work. C'est la vie.

I had to abandon development on a very cool X-33 short-of-replica, because I couldn't handle it on reentry:

I tried to recycle my earlier design for use in a Hind inspired successor intended to get to orbit. It's capable of lifting a BTR-80 KTP (Kerbal transporter/APC). The Hind Z "Space Hind" runs out of fuel just as it reaches supersonic speeds. The APC is capable of carrying 10 Kerbals (8 passengers + 2 drivers) and features closing protective blinders for the drivers (it still needs a lot of work look-wise). Unfortunately only 1 Kerbal can exit the APC due to blockage caused by the armour plates. The ship itself suffers balance problems if pitching the nose too high. Everything from the rear ramp door to the radial attachments that block the IVA view have been failures.

Probably this thing, my N1 replica. Couldn't even reach space, not enough fuel, terrible TWR, and too much lag, my game crashed thrice.
