Life support and vital sign monitoring

Recommended Posts

When the program had a life support system, the vital sign monitoring should come along. In real life, the first vital sign remote monitoring system was actually developed for space program. If there should be a similar system, I think there should be ECG, SpO2, Non-Invasive Blood Pressure, Breath Rate and Heart Rate. The crew will respond to the flight status, such as Gs, spinning, and also some mental stress. You will also be very careful choosing kerbonaut then. It could be funny if you have a medical emergency on space station, and require rescue mission.

I am a huge fan and I have been in medical device industry for 10+ years. 4 years ago, I started up a company called Warp United Scientific to develop Medical Recorder. It's basically a medical Tricorder from Star Trek, but unfortunately, CBS did send me a warning letter, we are not allowed to use the name "Tricorder"... Anyway, my point being, we should introduce some medical and vital sign into KSP, and make it more, well, fun.

Life support has been discussed a lot and there are several mods. However, I like the idea of monitoring vitals, it would be amusing to see Jeb's heart rate or blood pressure increase as his ship explodes around him. This raises the question though, do kerbals have hearts?

By the way, welcome to the forums:)

Welcome to the forums! :) I'll be moving this to Suggestions and Development, since that's where this sort of discussion is typically supposed to go.

Normally, Life Support suggestions aren't encouraged here, since they've been suggested and rehashed so much in the past that we've put them on our official What Not To Suggest list to clear the air for other topics. Nevertheless, as this particular suggestion has merit for other areas of gameplay than what is typically understood as "life support" on these forums (i.e. the resource-management aspect of having limited supplies to keep an astronaut alive during a long flight), we'll let this one stay open.

Also, while I know it's not a part of the stock game, you may be interested to know that the Deadly Reentry add-on does incorporate G-force damage that affects both your astronauts and craft parts.

a curious and well thought out idea! Now that I think about it, I am QUITE interested in something like this! Also (namely for the stuff we are not focused on) an alarm to alert us to a growing problem onboard to give us a warning so we have a chance to try and correct the situation.

I like the idea of misc vital sign information, it would be very interesting to see how different conditions affect a kerbals bodily functions.

pulling a high risk maneuver and the "waste" filling up :P

I would actually like something like this, though not as complicated. Heart rate and G numbers changing from green to red as kerbals are getting close to their limits would be nice little addition. Just click on their portraits to show/hide the info, because who likes to manage on-screen windows?
