What will happen to the old chase cam mode?

Recommended Posts

I have seen this question several times and have asked myself but yet to see squad make any comments.

Will it be entirely removed or will you at the very least keep the old one as a alternative for us who depend on the old one.

I use the chase cam to get proper first person view with for example my rovers, so that i can drive while having a "interior"/dashboard view.

If this camera mode is removed entirely then this and loads of other stuff will just not be possible anymore and that will break the game for me. :(

I don't see how the new chase cam would work with docking either. Assuming it chases your trajectory rather than your ship, and you have a target selected, the camera might move around fast when you're constantly changing your trajectory relative to the target with RCS thrusters.

Please keep in mind this is only what I can remember from something that was said a long time ago.

And I have no idea if it will be exactly like Improved Chase Camera. I only know it will no longer be rigidly locked but still follows your craft.

As far as I know the chase camera will be improved, not removed.

Currently the chase camera is rigidly locked to your craft, all movement, including the tiniest bump, is translated to the camera. The new camera will still follow your craft similarly to BahamutoD's Improved Chase Camera.

But you dont understand that the "improvement" will completely break what I use chase cam for. I can undertstand they want to have this new one, but removing the old one will prevent it from working for other purposes like what I do. I want it to be completely locked to the craft and move with every bump for that first person perspective. They should at very least let us toggle between the old and new one.

If this is removed then only way to get what I want is custom fixed camera mods, which sadly makes the game unstable for me.

And the "rigidly locked" function is exactly what I need.

Here is a perfect example of why I need it to be locked to the vessel:

This would simply not work with the new one as the view would move as soon as I turn the rover.

Honestly, Squad should have put in a first person view a long time ago. Using the chase cam like this is a hacky way to recreate another feature you want in the game.

This goes for using the chase cam for docking, as well. Having a docking indicator on the navball should be in 1.0.

THere is another use for chase cam though- it can be useful for clicking on parts with precision on a craft that is spinning or moving about.

It's finetoo Look at if youkeep your eyes on the craft.

The only issue I have with off is it doesn't Alow 360 degree rotation on all planes.

It can be used to look under things sometimes too.

Yep.. There is so many reasons to keep it in the stock game.

I would very much like the existing 'Chase Cam' mode to stay available (with a different name), it's fixed position relative to craft orientation makes it extremely handy for docking

Completely agree. After ditching jeb, the locked chase cam is exactly how I dock and do so quite well now.
