For how long I can edit my posts in the forum?

Hi,

Just a small question I did not really get to find it's place, so I hope someone knows about it here can help!

I am working on a series of some RP space program in the mission reports sub-forum, and I was wondering, for how long one can keep editing his posts in the forum before it is becomes locked out of editing?

Also If you port a reply, then immediately post another reply after it, they both get merged... but what is the time out for this process as well? for example after how long if I post a reply it will show in it's own reply box instead of getting merged with the one above it?

Sorry again if this does not fit here and thanks for the help

See that's what I'm talking about in michaelsteele3's reply...

Also, can this then be moved to Kerbal network :D

Sorry again for 3rd time as usual I did not bother to read the whole forum description under each forum's name :P

In these forums, once you've posted it, it will be available for editing for all eternity, save the planet (or at least, God forbid, the servers) blowing up, or that thread being locked by a moderator.

You can edit posts forever AFAIK.

This is a feature to keep multiposting to a minimum. I don't recall offhand how long the time limit is, I think it's five or ten minutes.

Also, moving this to the Kerbal Network forum as it's a question about the forum itself.

One of the writers in the Fanworks section did a test on this, and the cool down on the auto-merge "feature" is about one hour.

I checked with one of the forum admins, the timeout is currently set to 30 minutes before consecutive posts will not automerge.

Really though, there is almost never a need to make consecutive posts, unless you are running up against the character limit for a single post.

That would be quite a novel of a post.

LOL, that's correct :D I am sure that I will not reach that limit whatever it was :P

Well, the only need I have is, you know because of missions and press news and stuff :P, but that's fine, I can manage :)

Thanks for the help

Actually, I can testify first hand that there can be a need to make consecutive posts, especially if doing an AAR/Mission Report. It can be useful to keep the chapters/updates out of the OP (both for neatness and to allow direct linking to them from a chapter list/other threads/sites).

I must agree with Greenwolf. Keeping a content thread organized is much easier with direct URLs to each individual section, and the auto-merge function is just one more thing I have to dance around when I'm trying to get content posted.

That said, I understand why it's there. I just need to work on my dance steps a bit more.

Thank you for checking on that RIC.

Direct linking used to be a good case for it, but now Goto tags make them unnecessary. This is a relatively new function that lets you link directly to a particular line in a post.

As for neatness, that's more of a formatting issue. Multiple consecutive posts are not necessary for it.

Ah, but that's words, not characters. So just a novella then. Or is that what you meant?

*Double checks RIC's post.*

Huh. I could have sworn that it said 100,000 words, not characters. I guess it would be a short novel (aka novella).

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
