SAS not working with this ship design?

Recommended Posts

Hello guys!

I've came across a weird thing (bug?) . This is my ship design:

The controls are reversed and because of that SAS just spins the ship in all directions. Is this a design problem? How can I avoid it?

This is a design for a landing stage.

Thanks!

I suspect the probe core is rotated relative to the other parts, or maybe upside-down. Or it could be being controlled from an odd place. If you have other probe cores or crewed capsules you can right click them and select "Control from here" and the NavBall will orient itself to the controlled part. (You can't do it with those Hitchhiker Modules though)

And that is some serious lurking :D

Or what Red Iron Crown said

I have no idea why he scaled the image so much ;.;

@Red Iron Crown It indeed was the gimbals turning in the wrong direction. The problem is that I need the gimbals :D

If there is no other way I have to compensate with RCS thrusters, but I tried to avoid :P

Thanks

Yeah but I need the engines that high because when the thing is landed I will decouple the top part so the tank and the engines fly away.

But it seems like it's not possible right now :(

Are the devs aware of this?

The bug is quite old: http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/386 Really should be fixed for 1.0 IMO. It's sort of silly that control surfaces can work whether ahead or behind the CoM but gimbals don't.

A possible workaround you could use is to mount girders or beams to the upper section, extending low enough to get the engines below the CoM.
