DTS-M1 missing texture

Recommended Posts

You're missing a whole bunch of other elements as well (such as the hazard stripes). Are you sure you extracted the part textures properly?

If you look at the texture I uploaded you can see a purple (magenta) stripe on the right. That is used to make the hazard stripes. In the original antenna it's yellow but I've changed it to make antennas with different colors (you can see the pictures on my signature)

You probably exported it as a 32bit PNG and then, say, loaded it in Photoshop which does not handle PNGs right. Get SuperPNG and load the PNG alpha as alpha channel.

I'll try that, thank you! (I was using Paintshop pro, but I guess that's the same)

BTW since the texture is in .mbm I had to use a program called mbm2png to make the .png

But since I see the writing even loading the PNG I guess that's not the problem

EDIT:

wait, superPNG is a photoshop plugin? damn :/

Anyway with Paintshop pro I am able to see transparency, this is really weird honestly. I tried writing on top of the texture and when I do that the stuff on the antenna just disappears and I'm left with only the things I see in the PNG file.

On the contrary, If I change the color of the strip in the right I can get in-game antennas with different colors in the hazard stripes without affecting the rest of the antenna

Photoshop handles PNGs with alpha just fine.

* Open PNG

* Layer mask - from transparency

* Channels tab - duplicate layer mask layer as Alpha

* Delete layer mask without applying

Now it looks like anything else. There's probably a way to use fewer operations than that, even.

I'll try also that, thank you.

And if I can do it with paintshoppro I would be even happier

---------- EDIT

I'm trying this but it doesn't seem there's more information I can get out.

Could anyone try to check if their texture have the name somewhere?

you can find it in GameData\Squad\Parts\Utility\commsAntennaDTS-M1\

and you can download the PNG I'm working with from the first post of this thread (image #3 in the album)

I converted the png to TGA and the writing is all there.

The problem is most image editors treat the alpha channel as transparency info. Shaders don't unless they're specifically told to, so image channels can contain any data ( even the rgb channels don't have to hold rgb data ). I do appreciate the way Photoshop doesn't really care & it's something that really irritates me about Gimp.

Damn, I'm so stupid!

I had the solution under my nose the whole time :)

I had the same "problem" with a microscope in my lab saving blue/red images in just two channels and all software read them as red/green...

Of course that was way easier to solve :)

PS:

how did you convert to TGA? the TGA I make look exactly like yours.

KSP can load yours fine but can't load mine properly. I guess I'm losing something when I convert to TGA

PPS:

OK, it's not converting, it's when I modify the texture and then save. That messes up. I can change colors with "Adjust Channel Mix" but if I paste something or use the Text tool everything just stop working

I did exactly the procedure I'd detailed in Photoshop, using the png you uploaded to imgur, saved as 32bit RLE compressed. Incidentally neither imgur or flickr will let you upload tgas, wonderful.

can you edit the image? (I mean, edit and then load it on ksp correctly)

I can convert them and they load fine in ksp, but as soon as I modify anything and I save it, the saved modified image doesn't load properly
