If I were a REAL moderator...

Oh man, It would be like Caligula's reign.

The first 6 months would be great, and all the people would love me. Then after a near fatal bout of illness, I would return, Delete any user profiles that disagree with me, make my favorite horse the Kommunity manager, Demand the forum goers praise me as the one true kerbal, send the other moderators out in battle formation, only to have them collect seashells as spoils of war for my triumph. then, I will upset the wrong moderator, and he will organize a coup. During a squadcast they all will begin sending me photos of kittens until I die to death, ending my reign of terror.

Welcome to the team.

You don't want to know.

*maniacal laugh*

In seriousness, quit moderation. I don't want the responsibility... Besides, bad posts seem to be taken down quickly enough (sometimes I see an obviously out-of-section thread, report it, and it's already moved/deleted when I hit report)

There were a few decisions I would of like to have weighed in on, but I really wouldn't of cared enough to stay moderator. Problem posts/posters are easy enough to ignore. (shrug emoticon)

I would go and become Josep Stalin.

First, any person who I think opposes me would be purged.

That includes the rest of the moderator team.

After that, I would purge all of the aircraft and shipbuilders.

NO ONE WILL OPPOSE THE REGIME.

I've actually been a moderator for servers/forums before. I like moderating as it generally involves helping people.

I did get.... creative... when warning troublemakers not to push things to far but I tend to keep a cool head about most things and only rarely had to go beyond a warning stage.

I think the venerable Adam Douglas said it well:

The major problemâ€â€one of the major problems, for there are severalâ€â€one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

Dealing with people is ok (even the overly-excited ones). But the bots? Too many &@*#?!&+#!! bots these days for me to ever want to be a moderator on a popular site. Just rejecting the 30-50 or so bots a week that try to join one of the Facebook groups I help with is frustrating enough. (And I won't even get into how insane OneList/Yahoo!Groups were back when they were still usable and before they added some better mod tools.)

So I'm with Norpo - I'd just step down. After I shadow-banned everybody. ;)

As the Prime Temporary Moderator Gerneral, I feel honored to be a mod! I feel the power (of RDM) and it's been my life time... what? APRIL FOOLS?! You're a fool, you scrawny messenger! Send him to the Ban Blade! As I was saying, I don't secretly don't like to be a leader, even though being a First Mate would be my preferred place.

Much truth here. There's very good reason that new posters need their first few posts approved by a moderator, and some of them have gotten quite clever at looking like a legitimate post (some copy the text of a valid post and insert a link somewhere deep within).

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
