Kaspian Sea Monster And Ground Effect Vehicles

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Forum newbie here so please pardon my formatting, et al

There's a ( I think ) neat craft called the Kaspian Monster. Something the Soviets developed but never really took off. ( No pun intended) It's a big plane, and the whole class of planes it falls into would seem unable to fly, and to an extent they can't. But they are able to move fast enough that the air beneath them can't get out of the way because they fly so close to the ground. This is known as "The Ground Effect" It's that cushion you feel when an airplane comes in for a landing just before the wheels hit.

Does anyone know if this effect is currently modeled? Or will it be in 1.0, or FAR? And if this thread's been covered already, my apologies.

First of all, welcome to the forums.

Second your information on the Kaspian Sea Monster is thus far correct (according to my knowledge). I find it to be a very impressive vehicle :D

Thirdly, this effect is definetly not modeled in stock KSP. And as far as I know neither KSP 1.0, nor FAR/NEAR cover this either.

Welcome to the forums Renkov!

KSP doesn't model ground effect, which is a bit sad because I've always been impressed by ekranoplans and would love to build them in KSP...

Two years ago somebody has created a set of KSP ekranoplan replicas, but without any ground effect, of course - just crafts.

You can see their movies on youtube googling "kerbal ekranoplan".

Alas, they were published on kerbalspaceport.
