"This Halloween weekend will be mostly clear and 0 degrees with the wind chill on the night of October 31."

It rains every single Halloween where I live. Actually, last year it snowed, but you get the idea.

Last year I was a cucumber. Of course it rained and the costume couldn't be worn for more than twenty minutes. I put on a raincoat instead but then it turned to snow and I gave up and went in.

A fellow classmate who criticized me on my Classical Music fetish told me, sung in Ode to Joy's tune:

Beethoven sucks and you can't memorize $BadWord (Referring to Ode to Joy's german lyrics) and no one listens to that $BadWord anymore, and i can't remember the rest.. Along those lines.

Tells me the same things over and over again:

-Instead of actual singing, it's trumpets everywhere (DUH, what do you expect? Every classical piece to be sung like Land of Hope and Glory?)

-Classical and/or (insert either Beethoven or Mozart here) sucks (Excuse me? What if I told you "You suck? Wouldn't that be personally insulting?)

-No one listens to that (REDACTED) anymore (Uh, the 60 million views on Vivaldi's Four Seasons says otherwise.. and his "argument" (which is totally pointless because it's a matter of preference) is that Gangnam Style has 1 billion views. Ah, I see, Youtube is the best measurement with one piece from 2012 and another from the goddamn Baroque Period...)

-"Dude, listen to some modern dubstep!"

-(Another classmate) I'm a historian, and I think classical music is bad. (Oh my lord, a historian!!)

-Long and so boring, you could fall asleep (Not if you're actually willing to try..)

-Inferior to modern (Which is seriously broad, by the way --- In classical, there are piano sonatas, string quartets, symphonies, while you have dubstep, metal and such. Also, good luck replacing an apple and an orange.)

And who is he to judge my preference anyways? It's not inappropriate to listen to something else, and even more so.. He doesn't even know any examples of a classical piece.

And is it not possible to just.. leave me alone? I don't criticize him for listening to dubstep, why should he criticize me for listening to something else?

Geez, I never knew somebody could hate music so much. I mean, I don't like it either (Except for Ode to Joy because it was the tune to one of the hymns we used to sing all the time in Catholic school [i'm agnostic now but it's one of those "childhood memories" things]), but beyond a dislike of it I'm pretty ambivalent towards it. To each his own, as the saying goes.

Mid terms are here...

Here are some things I have learned from my college students thus far this semester:

Vietnam is a tiny island in the Caribbean...

The Germans bombed the U.S.S. Enterprise while it was docked in Guantanamo Bay, Hawaii...

World War I started because France and Germany had too many soldiers and not enough to do with them...

The Holocaust was Germany's attempt to build a holodeck. It blew up Dresden...

Great Britain attacked Poland in 1938 and it angered the Germans, starting World War II...

Yeah, this has been an incredibly bad semester for my three U.S. history classes...

I have lost so many brain cells... I fear for the future of humanity.

This semester is far worse than any I have taught in since beginning teaching at the college level 12 years ago. It is amazing the excuses some of the students will come up with for poor performance. Not everyone needs a college degree to succeed; many of these low-performing academic students would be better off in a vocational training program where they can have hands on experience...

Ugh, that's sad. Not surprising, but sad.
