Scrap this. Just like every other mission report thread I have done...

Hi all!

I've taken a crack at fan works before, but the bases I was using for them derped out. Twice.

I'm trying again.

This will have some pictures but mostly writing.

Also, some parts are told in 1st person and others in 3rd person (or 1st and 3rd kerbal).

And Also (again), I'll post some nice (Interstellar) music to listen to whilst you're reading.

This will be a fan-work based a lot on Interstellar, and it will be done thanks to:

SQUAD (no kidding...)

KAS

Endurance Mod

Raster Prop Monitor.

I also might have craft I downloaded from others and if so I will post the craft name and owner here.

Chapter 1 - Desperate Times

Sidrie Kerman:

Kerbin is dying.

The crops we have planted for centuries are slowly vanishing. The population of Kerbals is declining.

Starvation.

Thirst.

Fear.

Death.

We tried getting cures for the plants. We tried to get rid of the Citric Acid in the water. We tried everything.

Except one.

Moving.

We need a new home. Sadly, there is no place to go.

Or so everyone thought. Now we have a hope.

The Jool system. For the first time since the beggining of DMSP, Kerbin and Jool are lined up so we won't have to use more than 9,000m/s.

Our craft is in orbit. The CSV Paulina. Two Landers, One Ranger. The crew is ready. Jool looks good.

And we have a hope.

I'm leaving my family behind. But I have a chance to save them.

To save Kerbals from extinction.

It's a long shot, but at least it's a shot.

The crew of the CSV (Colony Set-up Vehicle) Paulina had been trained in secret years before the mission. Even they didn't know they were being trained. That was a time when no one in the public knew Kerbin was dying. It became obvious it was when Kerbals started dying because their water source became polluted with Citric Acid and food disappeared off of their plates. Panic followed. Governments were able to calm people down by saying they had a solution. Most people still alive on Kerbin believed. Space agencies sent out different bases and missions to the Mun, Minmus and even one to Duna. This was all in secret to make sure no one panicked again. All of the base projects failed, and most of the crews never saw home again. Some lucky ones got back, but the rest are still out there, either dead at their cold outposts or living off their greenhouse modules.

Jool has 5 moons. It causes tidal heating. Life might be on some of those moons. Jool is a chance. So everyone at DMSP took it.

Chapter 2 - So long, Kerbin

_2

Sidrie had just finished packing the last KAS equipment when he drove his rover back home. He took in the rolling fields, towering mountains, and glinting oceans. So long, Kerbin...

His daughter, Staca Elo Kerman, ran into his arms.

Then he told her everything about the mission.

She stopped smiling.

She turned around.

And Staca stormed in the house and started crying. Sidrie followed her in.

“Staca…†He said desperately “Please…†Staca didn’t listen as she pushed her desk and chair in front of the door, along with her very small bucket of toys. Sidrie started knocking. “Stac, don’t let me…â€Â

Staca cut him off “Go away! If you’re gonna leave me then just go! I’ll never see you again and you’ll just be floating in space!â€Â

“Stac, c’mon! don’t say that. I’m coming back!†He pushed open the door to her room, surprised by the pile of stuff blocking the door. He used force, tipping over the chair and making things fall off the desk. He hopped in her bed and started hugging her.

“Leave me alone!†she cried. “You don’t even know when you’re coming back! If you’re coming back!â€Â

“Stac, don’t make me leave like this! I’m coming back! And I love you. Forever. I’m coming back, and I’ll see you again.†He gave her a kiss on the forehead. He turned, and left Staca’s room. He closed the door, and hugged his father in law, Dotmal. “Watch after Stac for me, Dotmal.â€Â

He hopped into his off road rover and started the drive towards KSC. Only then did Staca come running out, screaming at her dad.

“Stay! Dad! Daddy please Stay!†She yelled into the dying light.

Sidrie, distracted by the sound of the four wheels beneath him and the tears dripping down his face, never heard Stac’s cries.

As Kerbol began to set, Sidrie turned his headlights on and parked on the side of the dirt. He stood on top of the rover’s roof, and turned to look at his home, miles in the distance, its silhouette outlined against setting Kerbol. Only once Kerbol was below the horizon did he climb back in the rover and continue driving towards the mountains lying ahead.

Chapter 3 - Meeting Paulina

"Ok, crew is go!" Shouted Sidrie over the intercom. The modified Jool-6 was now ready to go. Sidrie looked at his 3 other crew members. Newson, his Science! officer, Genson, the backup pilot and Rodbles, His main engineer. They were sitting inside Ranger-1, one of the two on the rocket adapter. He could see the excitement in their eyes, and the horror as well. They might never come back. They might not make it to Jool. They might never dock with the Paulina. Heck, they might never make it off the pad. But he knew they would.

"Two minutes to liftoff," Announced Gane Kerman at Mission Control, "All fuel pipes released, systems nominal!"

One minute and 40 seconds later...

"20 seconds!" Gane was tense. So were the crew inside Ranger-1. Sidrie, remembering, took a photo of Staca out and put it in the tight space behind one of the control panels.

I'll see you again... Sidre thought.

"10 seconds!"

"5"

"4"

"3"

"2"

"1, all 1st stage motors go, clamps released, and... we have a liftoff!" The force of the 1st stage's 20 rocket motors lifted the Rangers off the ground. The far left window was smudged, and it seemed to distort the blue sky and the Mün. The Mün, a source of pride for Kerbal-Kind. Also the grave of 37 Kerbals and 12 bases. The rocket pushed skywards.

5 minutes later...

Sidrie took a quick glance at the first stage fuel. Almost empty.

"First stage burnout in 6 seconds!" He yelled over the 20 dying rocket motors. "3". "2". "1"! The interstage seperated, and everyone and everything was thrown forward. The second stage ignited, clawing towards the dark vacuum of space.

3 hours later...

Newson was floating around the cases of personal belongings and last minute equipment when he spotted a glint out of the window. A grin spread across his face.

"Hello Paulina, nice to meet you!" He announced jokingly. Sidrie clambered over his chair and looked out of the window. The ring of modules reminded Sidrie of a clock. Rodbles let out a gasp in awe.

They now had seen their new home.

Genson was stunned. "Wow... What a wonder..." He looked wide eyed at the craft. He had constructed multiple parts of the craft, but seeing it fully assembled put him in awe.

The crew got to work setting up the Rangers for docking.

32 minutes later...

Sidrie was sitting at the controls, watching the Paulina through his window.

"Alright, separating Ranger-2!" Ranger-2 flew away from the adapter towards the ship, its autopilot docking sequence kicking in. The craft docked perfectly. "Ok guys, strap in! It's our turn to dock! Ranger-1... Detached!" The Ranger and its crew flew away from the adapter and rotated to get in line with the port. Sidrie alined the Ranger and then started using the RCS to ease them towards it. When less than 30 centimeters away, the magnets on both docking ports brought the spacecraft together. "And... docked"

"Yes!" Genson was excited.

"Nice work Sidrie!" Newson was relived. The crew began by opening the front airlock.

I write stories too, and trust me, you don't get views as fast as you think. I try to comment on everything I read though.

i feel it is a bit too much like interstellar, but eh, it's my favorite movie anyways. And I am in the process of writing my own Interstellar parody, in a private file in Microsoft word. Not the one on the forums. Called INTEGRITY.
