Yeah, so, nope. I don't think it'll be the magic boulder either, since that would be something people check for pretty much instantly after release. I'm looking forward to someone finding it though.

TBH I don't think they'd predict two whole months if they were planning on something as big and dearly missed as the Magic Boulder. Think of some other "Easter eggs" that have shown up lately: "Kurvy", the little smiley inside the goo (I think it was goo) canister, a subtle 2001 reference in one of the Science reports around Jool, etc. etc.

So honestly I have a feeling the new Easter egg might well take a while to find because it'll be really small, easy to miss, and hidden somewhere nobody will think to look.

Oh, and it'll probably be "discovered" in a bug report mistakenly posted in the General Discussion forum (coughToolbarEastereggcough) ;P

A hidden gas planet that we can find through randomly searching beyond Eeloo's orbit. It becomes visible only once to have plotted an encounter.

True, same deal as the Happifas Trench under the ocean south of KSC, which you need some sort of mapping system to find. Maybe looking at the resource map of the sun reveals a gigantic, thousand km long curse word

Nah, scanning every body is going to be one of the first things done in the update. My bet is that there is going to be something really funky about the mist that is released when you mine something, some micro textures hidden in the mist.

The Dres asteroids can hardly be considered an easter egg.

so that works or not? the ore resource shows a rate of change of -0.00... but the graphics suggest it is working

I wonder if it just checks that the craft is landed, and then the drill produces resources in accordance with the local abundance. I'll have to test when I get home if I can have a drill going into the sky and still producing resources.

-But this wouldn't work for asteroids... maybe it checks if it contacts something else... maybe test and see if it works when you drill into the side of the VAB or something.

Presumably, you could drill anywhere on Kerbin, and get a small flow of Ore.

I'm not convinced that this is the easter egg, but it may rather be an "artifact" of the system much like the Moholes are an artifact of the height map texture system.

Hey guys - just a heads up (and probably a herald of sadness) but the proverbial cat is out of the bag, and the dres asteroid rings were in fact the nifty present that we snuck in for resources

I did not anticipate the rumor getting out and everyone and their brother swarming that sad lonely planet

Then go hit Maxmaps head, since it was him that let that particular cat out. Thanks to him, I already knew that Dres had asteroids around since last Friday
