Community Count-Down Timer for v1.0

Just for giggles I've set up a launch count down timer for the release of KSP 1.0. We don't actually know what time it will be released so this is a community guessing game. You can each enter the time that you think v1 will be released and the counter will count down based on the average of what you all guess.

You can make up to 5 guesses per IP address (you don't have to log into KerbalX to guess which is why I've set the limit to IP rather than user account).

Wow, that's an optimistic timer. It's probably going to be in the evening in mexico, as long as squad doesn't use a different timing for release. Timezones over there are -7 to -5, so i'd go for 10PM or 12PM UTC. Experience and release of the trailers point that way.

It better be released in the first second of monday, otherwise I'm gonna get maaaaaaad MAAAAAAAD

You may need to dynamically adjust your timezone to stave off madness then!

well, it's an optimistic community. I agree though, my guess is for around 20:00 hrs UTC. I'm really interested to see how close to the real time we manage to collectively guess. Gogo hive mind!

Any suggestions as to what I should make the site do when the timer hits 0:00:00 and it's not released yet?

Squad might have mercy and just release it monday in the morning when nobody expects it... The server might even survive release. For a few minutes.

It wouldn't really matter to us if they initially set the release one day later so they can get it out in the morning. Could be a Squad thing to do, considering they constantly improved the release timing. Then again, maybe i'm just creating false hope. :P

Print giant red letters saying BETRAYAL?^^'

Just had a minor crash in the countdown guessing, but it's back up now. Only thing is the log of who's voted has been nuked so if you have already voted 5 times, you can vote again, but never mind!

We've had about 550 predictions made so far and the average time guessed is around 15:30 UTC, which I think is probably way early, but we're an optimistic bunch!

Out of curiosity, what will happen when the timer reaches zero? Will it start ticking into positive time, or does it just display a '1.0 is released' message?

I didn't want it to display an "it's released" message unless it was actually released. Thought that might cause pandemonium. so if it hits zero before it comes out (looking more and more likely) then it just says it's not out yet and shows what our average guessed time was. When KSP does actually release I'll manually switch it to show the it's released message with links to KSP store and steam.

Wonder what happens to the predicted time if you ignore all predictions that have already been proved false by virtue of now being in the past?

hmmm not a bad idea. I might actually do that.

Just had a look at what that would do. If I ignore time guesses that are now in the past it will push the expected time back to 19:31:34 UTC. Should I do that?

There should be an international law that forces all the developers release their products exactly at 12:00 GMT. I really hate the fact that Steam "release time" is set on something like 12:00 CDT (21:00 in my place). Sure, they're fine with this, but all the other world is either sleeping or just came out from work.

I think so. It won't represent the whole community guess, but it might give a reasonably accurate estimate.

I've trimmed some of the data for passed time guesses (weeding some out on a random selection so the jump in timer isn't so harsh)

But my poor site!! It canny-take the load captain! It's being like a military academy, bits of it keep passing out!!

I've gone from having about 500-800 users per day to having about 9k over the last few hours!! Wasn't prepared for this onslaught!!!

Actually the timer was off by about 5 minutes? Steam just downloaded a 31.5mb update... But it seems a bit borked right now... Started KSP, but still got 0.90...

Hmmmm interesting. But the store is still down so can't be yet? can it?
