Game taking incredibly long to load.

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

After a fresh install of Kerbal Space Program for the official release, my game now seems to take forever to load. It took 5 minutes to finish loading just the flags? I've added both 'Launcher.exe' and 'KSP.exe' to AVG whilst also disabling it thereafter. Before the initial release (roughly 3-4 weeks ago, when I last played it), it happened to do the same thing and so I basically stopped playing.

My computer specifications:

AMD FX-6350 Six-Core Processor @ 3.90GHz

8GB DDR3 RAM

64-bit Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium

Plenty of room on my HDD :D

Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

I have the same issue, and sometimes the loading takes like half an hour, while sometimes the game loads in under half a minute. Nothing other than Chrome loaded so pretty much idle load.

System specs: Windows 7 64bit, i7 980X hexacore @ 4 GHz, 12 GB ram, dual GTX 580 in SLI, dual SSD Intel X25 G2 160GB in Raid0 with about 500MB/s read/write.

I also have the same problem where the game virtually won't load. I have similar specs. AMD running at 4.0GHz 8Gb DDR3 64bit Windows 8.1 and plenty of room.

Guys we need your logs, it's no joke, KSP should not be doing this and the cause of your issue is unknown, in fact for most players KSP starts faster so it's not even a common KSP issue.

Without more info there's no way we can solve this.

Unfortunately it didn't, there's nothing in those logs to suggest any problem, how are each of you starting KSP, maybe there's something in common here.

Also, what anti-virus are you all using?

I just did a clean boot of windows so here is the log for that: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%20clean%20boot.rar

Just to compare I did a regular normal boot after with similar results: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%20normal%20boot.rar

I start ksp from steam library by clicking the "play" button. I have F-Secure Internet Security 2015 antivirus and normal windows firewall.

EDIT: Tried to launch from the desktop shortcut, here is the log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%20desktop%20shortcut.rar

My version is: 1.0.2.842 and it is through Steam. My windows is 64bit.

I am 99% sure it is 32bit (does Kerbal Windows even have 64bit?)

Every time I load the game, it takes nearly 3 seconds to load each file, and a total of about 15 minutes to fully load the game. Here is what I have tried so far:

-Full reinstall on both HDD and SSD

-Reinstall then reboot of computer

-Crying

And none of them have worked.

Here is a link to my log just after a fresh install: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ijsf8air3y22zy2/KSP.log?dl=0

Here are my specs:

i5 4670 @ 3.4GHz

8GB RAM

Nvidia GTX 760 2GB

WD Blue 1TB HDD

Crucial M500 240GB SSD

For antivirus I have Malwarebytes installed, but it doesn't run in the background (ex: I only launch and scan with it when I have a problem). Windows Defender is there, but its only there to make my parents feel like I have one.

I want to play KSP 1.0 but it takes so long to load, it is dissuading me from playing!

FIXED! HOW? A while back I set up an ad-hoc network with a wifi adapter, but never got rid of the second network once I was done. Just disabled it today, and the loading issue is 100% resolved!

The only thing that's really changed has been the textures, KSP uses .dds instead of .mbm and .tga now.

Maybe your graphics drivers are failing to load the textures directly and are trying to convert them from .dds to .dds

Can you try a different driver?

Today the game loaded quickly as it should, only 36 seconds. Here is the log files: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%20fast%20load.rar

I also have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free version) installed but not running.

EDIT: and a few minutes later I tried loading up the game again only to find that it took 22 mins :(, here is the log for that also: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/22%20min%20ksp%20loading.rar

Ok, I think i have some useful information this time, in the last post, the fast loading happened when my network went down, the 22 min when I was online. So I did some testing and disconnected my internet and BAM the game loaded in 10 - 12 seconds, then I reconnected the internet and loading took 1.5 minutes. Went offline again and 10 seconds flat loading the game. So the issue must be network related. I use my Samsung phone via USB cable as modem with 4G 100Mbit as my connection now as my standard cable internet is down for the moment. Will test again when my cable comes online sometime next week I think.

Here are 4 logs:

Offline: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%2010s%20offline.rar

Offline: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%2012s%20offline.rar

Online: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%20online%201.5%20min.rar

Offline: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107855887/ksp%20offline%20second%2010s.rar

Hope this will help this time :)

KSP does call home, this can be disabled in the settings.cfg, look for these.

CALL_HOME = False

DONT_SEND_IP = False

SEND_PROGRESS_DATA = True

CHECK_FOR_UPDATES = True

Try setting them all to false.

Some mods also call their servers.

I tried this and it took 102 seconds to load, no where near the 10 seconds when offline

I had Hamatchi on my PC, so I uninstalled it, restarted, and KSP still took ages.

I also tried both changing the connection settings in the settings.cfg and updating my graphics drivers (347.xxx to 350.xxx[newest]). Neither of them worked, Still taking ages with every file.

I ran into some talk similar to this the other day on reddit. Would any of you happen to be running Hamachi?

The participants of that thread were saying it was a bug in unity that increased loading time by 1sec or so per file loaded when hamachi was just sitting in the background. (something about open network connections or something, don't quote me on that.)

The Hamachi issue is actually an issue with network adapters in general.

The solution to which is not to uninstall Hamachi, but to disable all unused network adapters, including things like LAN adapters.

This also means the problem is not limited to Hamachi.

Today my cable internet got reconnected and the loading bug is no more and the game loads fast, about 11 - 13 seconds. So the issue must have to do with network adapters maybe? Since I had the cable from the cable internet still plugged into my computer when I used the 4G connection. Also I don't have Hamachi or any other VPN program installed.

Here are 2 logs anyways:

Maybe firewalling KSP will also solve this, can someone test that please?

I tried blocking KSP with the firewall and still same results as not blocking it. The only way yet to solve this is disconnecting and/or disabling all but one network connection.

EDIT: Just to test I had my phone connected via USB cable but only data access to storage and stuff, no internet sharing, and KSP worked well. Only when I share the internet connection from the phone, KSP slows down loading times.
