remove tourist contracts for early career mode

Recommended Posts

I don't recall this in the previous updates of the game but I could be wrong, but now in career mode with contracts, there are contracts to take kerbal tourist out on tours to plays like Kerbin orbit and the Mun. This honestly makes absolutely no sense early on in career, especially in hard mode. There are no ships/parts that can hold more than one kerbal at a time. Apart from this, learning the new aerodynamics and everything, it just seems really bizarre to have so many of those contracts come up so early in the game with no adequate ships to do so.

I love the idea, I think it just needed better placing, say after you have the MK-2 pod unlocked at least. It's kind of pointless to me right now.

More than one command pod can be placed on a vessel, and probe cores can also be used to carry tourists.

The probe core controls the ship, freeing up the pod for the tourist.

But I agree with the OP: Tourist contracts shouldn't be first-tier contracts (realistically). But they are VERY Kerbal..

Come on, just made a low-coster (only first 3 tech nodes opened).

See the sights of Kerbin from space for only 8K (no guarantees, no refunds)! :D

Valentina's being very busy right now flying the tourists around.

I can post pics later, but I simply placed one command pod on top of another one. Looks not very promising but it makes to orbit and back.

I'm finding the tourist contracts to be great fun, I'm getting paid to launch craft into space, not hunt for survey locations or test parts, and these contracts are easy to do with just the added mass of the extra pods to contend with.

And you have to love the Hawaiian shirts :)

I don't mind them. And a contract that might be a little bit more than your tech should allow I think is fine. Let you take the risk of working with parts that aren't ideal to get some money. If you don't think you can handle the contacts just deny them.

Had I known about the shirts, I might have taken one. Now I'll have to, lol.

The reason I haven't accepted any tourists yet is because the contracts don't pay science (which makes sense) and don't even pay that many funds. But every little bit counts; a tourist contract would be a perfect way to offset launch costs of a "more useful" mission if I had the room.

I currently have 3 tourist contracts available to me. Each contract has 2 tourists. I only have 1 man pods. I have no probes.

You don't need to take all the tourists on the same craft. I've been doing my multi-tourist contracts one tourist per launch until I can advance far enough to do multiple in one launch.

The contacts are currently a bit over bearing, as usually there's twice as many tourist contracts to any other. I don't mind them (not that I have any desire considering the low payout) but the average number in the contracts need to be lowered.

Well, as I said in another thread, it's the newbies I'm worried about. Not the old hands. Are solutions like unlocking the probe core or mounting a second MK I upside down obvious enough that newbies feel they can get over that particular barrier or is it difficult enough that they get overly frustrated? I couldn't possible know that, only speculate. But it is something I'm concerned may be too high a barrier for a lot.

Maybe I'm underestimating the newbies. I don't know.
