Service bay doors won't open in VAB

Recommended Posts

I think this is the same old problem that would happen to other articulating items like ladders, where if you load it up in the VAB after a while doing other things then the button no longer works. In this case I have a 2.5m service bay packed with other parts and now I cannot open it to access what is inside while I'm editing the ship in the VAB. It opens fine once the ship is active in space or on the launch pad, just not in the VAB where I need to edit it. With a ladder it was a simple matter of taking it off, throwing it away and adding a new one as a workaround, but I'd rather not have to do that since I have so much stuff inside this service bay.

Is there a workaround for this that doesn't require me starting from scratch with a brand new service bay?

(I can probably start over and have the bay the way I want it in the time it takes to get responses from you guys, but it would be nice to know of a workaround for the future).

Delete the fairing, worked for me. Not sure if it's intended or not but ya, they won't open inside a fairing.

Anything inside a fairing or closed cargo bay is not allowed to open/extend/deploy - it's a bit annoying this applies to the VAB as well

  • 1 year later...

Just to be clear, this is an old thread from well over a year ago, and KSP has changed a lot in the meantime.

Locking the thread to prevent confusion.  @Thatguywholikesionengines, if you've got a problem with service bays currently in 1.1.3, please open a new thread for it, so that folks won't be confused by the (old, likely out-of-date) comments in the earlier part of this thread.
