"Station must be on wheels" contract requirement

Recommended Posts

Does the requirement of a contract to put a station on the surface of a body where it says "station must be on wheels" only work with rover-style wheels? I just landed this ungainly thing on Bop and am not getting credit using some spaceplane wheels:

Seems to me that if the contract requires only rover wheels then it should specify that in the requirements. It sucks to fly all the way out to the Jool system only to find out that I need to use a different type of wheel.

I don't think it's an issue with the parts themselves, I think it's just an issue of the non-specific nature of the contract wording, unless it was intended to allow all wheels then maybe the parts need a config change.

It also may be your fault for not testing if the parameter was completed on Kerbin, where one generally tests for such things. Put the base on the pad next time. :)

Though it is most certainly misleading. Putting "rover wheels" or "powered wheels" would be better.

Does need *powered* rover wheels to count. I think even one wheel connecting with the ground would satisfy the contract check. Sorry for your trouble... been there ;)

Its a word-choice vs. player expectation issue. Players see the object 'small landing gear' has wheels, but, the contract doesn't accept it.

Worked the same way in .90

IIRC even in 0.90 this was the case. However, in 0.90 the wheels didn't actually have to touch the ground. I got these contracts done by landing a base with an attached mini rover, and was awarded completion even though the rover never touched the surface.

I used the debug menu to auto-complete the contract (which I felt I had earned), so I no longer have it active, but I found it in my archive of completed contracts here:

To my way of thinking, past behavior from previous versions is now irrelevant, this is 1.0, the official release, and I found this behavior to be troublesome. I chose the small gear bay because the only other rover wheels I had unlocked at the time had a lower crash tolerance and as you can see from my first image, I was using these to land without any other landing struts. I assumed they would work as "wheels" for the contract and it did not occur to me that one wheel type would be acceptable and other wheels would not.

All I would ask for is either better clarity on the contract wording ("outpost must be on rover wheels") or perhaps keep the language the same but make sure all the various wheels can satisfy the requirement for the contract.

According to Arsonide above, this is being looked at now as the small landing gear should work:

These parameters are set up to work with landing gears, as evidenced by using the larger gears, but for some reason the small gear bay is not triggering it. I will look into this.
