After building a basic jet, I took a couple of short-range tourist contracts.

However, there are some problems. Although the tourism destinations are visible from the tracking station, they don't show up in map view during flight. In addition, it appears that even in the tracking station, there is no way to tell which destination belongs to which tourist.

Am I missing something somewhere?

Tourism contracts do not have waypointed destinations. You might be seeing surveys in the tracking station. Tourism contracts just ask you to go to a vague area on a body, like "in orbit of the Mun".
