Ship "explodes" when in orbit for no reason

Recommended Posts

Lately when i manage to get a ship into orbit it happens that it breakes apart, in the sense that every part attached to it just flies away. That happens frequently after i go back to the tracking station and than i press Fly on the ship. Is there anything i can do about it? My game is unmodded since 1.0 (i have reinstalled it).

Most likely it's overheating, you can enable heat in the action menu and as an overlay in the debug menu, alt+F12, physics tab :)

Heat can also be controlled there.

If it's not this then please see the support stickies, we'll need your game logs.

What do you mean it may be heat? The mess happens when it's already in orbit far from any source of heating (aside from the sun), i return to the ship from the tracking station and i find it in piecies drifting in any direction. here is the link to download the craft file and the output.txt file and the save file. thank you for the help! https://mega.co.nz/#F!gIUTnaRR!f-dCMBugB72Eh24RceOEVg

Hey I only had your opening post to go on, and craft do overheat and explode, checking your logs now.

Update:

Your station 2 isn't in the save anymore :/

I did forget that i deleted the ship before thinking to ask for support.... Anyway i did repeat the launch after doing some tweaks to the ship and now it seems everything is fine. Would you tell me if the following is possible? Can a poor disposition of objects inside the service bay (A lot of them possibly touching the borders of it) may cause trouble to the integrity of the ship?

I think it can. I had a ship blow up when I docked with it yesterday. The service bay I had full of RCS tanks looked like a kid's ball pit had exploded in munar orbit. It had been perfectly fine and stable till it had to reload its physics.

I did several tests and i can confirm that overloading the service bay may cause the ship to wreck itself since the overload causes the service bay to undergo some sort of strong vibration which may tear the ship apart, as did happen to me.

I can attest that service bays cause this problem for me as well. A test build I'd put on the launchpad had 4 container brackets (from kerbal inventory system) attached to the inside with containers on the brackets. Attaching no less than a dozen struts between the service bay and external components doesn't do anything to fix the problem. More often than not, it explodes on the launchpad the moment the physics loads. If it decides to not explode on the pad, then it launches and flies around just fine.

Requires Karbonite and Kerbal Inventory System

Edit - Opening the service bay doors when it's vibrating, but hadn't yet exploded the craft, seems to have an effect? Maybe it's a collision box error?
