OpenGL memory leak?

Recommended Posts

1.0.2, all stock, except -force-opengl option.

At the start, memory footprint was at 900Mb.

What I've done since:

- Built a small airliner, took it for a spin, crashed it (cut thrust too early...)

- Reverted to SPH, took new stock airliner for a spin, landed it safely

After all these things, my mem footprint sits at 1.5 Gb. I've never experienced such things in 0.90.

Thoughts? Tests? Advices?

You never experienced the memory leaks in 0.90? Not sure how that's possible...it was much worse then.

But it does seem there are still memory leaks in the game. I'm not using the -force-opengl option, and I'm getting them too. Keeps crashing my game, though not as often as it used to. ;.;

ETA: one thing you can do to minimize it is use the lower resolution textures. I'm running quarter res right now, and that keeps the crashes to a minimum without having to go all the way down to eighth res...also turn off ground scatter.

Actually biohazard15 may have a point though I have not tested but I have been running with -force opengl since 1.0 came out and I have crashed a lot. I am fairly certain there is a memory leak without (my first crash did not have it -force-opengl turned on) but almost seems worse with it on.

I did run a memory test. Opengl no longer has near the benefit that it used to, and has some significant video quality negatives. I only gained about 75MB as opposed to the nearly 700 MB I used to gain from using it. It also caused mesh tearing and terrain blinking that is rather annoying. All in all probably not worth the trouble any more.

Yeah I'm crashing every 30-60min without fail, really sad as I really dont remember 0.9 ever doing this but maybe I never played that long.

Edit: Also on the larger ships I'm working on now, I can only crash/revert a handful of times before my memory approaches the 3GB range.

I'm crashing constantly. There seem to be a lot of memory leaks. I just now locked up while at the mission control screen, and I have amod that disables the overheat gauges too. The process just grows larger and larger out of control. I'm going to try running without -force-opengl for a while and see if that improves things.

I'm not crashing constantly, but I am noticing a slow memory leak coming from somewhere (which got faster while I was biome hopping), and lo and behold I do have -force opengl on. Going to try running without that to see how that helps.

But yeah, I suspect theres a few memory leaks around somewhere.
