KEMA Drag Week - ROUND CLOSES 28TH MAY

Recommended Posts

Too lazy to deal with the time zone thing, Just gonna post this today so I make the deadline. Behold! The Cheetah!

This dragster weighs in at an earth-shattering 7140 tones. With a top speed of a woapping 2270 km/h. Combined with exactly 4 wheels, two winglets and 1 parachute, this beast produces a rage inducing 2 Million points.

Instructions:

Wait ~10 seconds for physics to stabilize.

Turn on SAS.

Stage to start the run.

Stage to use the parachute after fuel runs out.

If the dragster explodes during the run, I take whatever max speed it got too. Whatever speed your dragster reaches during the run before running out of fuel is the value that I take to form the points
You can detach parts, explode parts, break parts - it doesn't matter, the run will still be taken for data.
Weight is calculated as initial launch weight. The challenge is designed with the rules and guidelines the way it is to provide variation in peoples designs, allowing people to achieve large amounts of points in their score with very different designs. As a rules of thumb, as long as the craft slows down to below 20m/s, I'll just do the "F3", check the speed then end the run. I am NOT going to change the rules, and guidelines...

THE RULES, GUIDELINES AND INFO:

- NO part clipping is permitted through the debug menu - part clipping is permitted but only to a feasible extent

- Any dragster must be created using KSP version 1.0.2

- No mods are to be used on any dragster

- Each dragster must ONLY use solid rocket boosters for propulsion

- Each dragster can carry a maximum of 500 solid fuel at any one time

- Each dragster must have a minimum of 4 wheels

- Each dragster must have a minimum of 2 wings (includes any wings, wing sections, winglets, control surfaces, etc)

- All dragsters are to be submitted in craft file form - once entries are closed for the round, each dragster will be ran by myself to remove cheating and provide fairness (see point after next); videos will be provided of the highlights of the round

- All dragster are to be given a name upon submission - this name will be shown on leader boards when testing is commenced.

- When under testing, no input will be provided to the dragster. SAS will be turned on, thrust will be set to 0%, and the only input will be that to stage the dragster

- The dragster must not leave the runway - leaving the runway results in a DNF for that run

- Each dragster is run over 3 times, with all 3 run's scores being averaged to form the final scores

- Dragsters are grouped into weight tiers as follows:

= <3t - Small tier

= >3t & <5t - Medium tier

= >5t Large tier

- Each tier has their own overall winners, with a separate final winner based on total amount of points

- The dragster CAN become airborne on the runway, but only within reason (3-5m in height)

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND DETAILS

Upon submission, any special instructions to operate the dragster must be given. If no instructions are given, the dragster will just be staged whenever the current stage is depleted of fuel. Another note to submissions, is that ONLY a craft file is to be submitted - no videos or images are required but you may submit them if you like to show some testing of your dragster.

SCORING SYSTEM:

Each dragster is scored based on their km/h final speed at the end of the run, weight of the dragster (in tonnes), winglets on the dragster, wheels on the dragster, and any parachutes on the dragster. The formula for score generation is as follows:

(Dragster speed x weight of the dragster) / (wings on the dragster x wheels on the dragster x parachutes on the dragster)

In the event that no parachutes are on the dragster, the parachute value is set to 0.5

For example, a 2t dragster, with 4 winglets, 4 wheels and 2 parachutes that reached a speed of 600km/h will receive a score of 37.5 in the small tier.

Serassa, you did not make the deadline for the current round, the deadline was 12:00PM AEST and your entry was submitted at 12:22PM AEST. Your craft is also under testing to see if it is eligible for the second round of drag racing - I will disclose whether your craft has been disqualified or not soon. As for everyone else who entered, testing will begin roughly at about 12:00PM AEST on May 14th, whereby the results should be released that afternoon (testing and release times are subject to change at my discretion). After the results have been released, the next round will be opened for entries and the new deadline will be presented.

EDIT: Manipulation of post quoting will also not be tolerated, and the rules and guidelines are subject to change. The post was directed at yourself personally (i.e. Serassa) and states that the rules and guidelines will not be changed to conform with your instability.

As per the challenge submission guideline thread:

No one likes a wiseguy!

Challenges work on an honour system, we can't always check if you are cheating and even if you don't "cheat", if you deliberately misinterpret the rules of a challenge or its spirit in order to gain an advantage, you'll spoil the fun for everyone else.

Serassa, your entry has therefore been disqualified and no further entries will be accepted from you. Any further posting in this thread, be it with regards to debating this disqualification or otherwise, will be reported - any conversations you wish to have with regards to this shall be messaged to me directly.

Because of how much time I don't have, I'll do the results tomorrow and try to release them some time tomorrow. As for the new deadline date, entries close on THURSDAY MAY 21st!!! If you have already entered, you can enter again, even with the same dragster if you wish - just say so if you want to. Usually I won't be releasing the new deadline until the release the results, but I thought I may as well release the date now.

Also, a note - highlight videos for future rounds will hopefully be available; I'm working on making a grand stand for a kerbal audience, and I'm also working on an intro for the video :D

I must ask, are "A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S." as they are so called allowed? And if they are, are they considered wings? they can be set up to control the craft so i was just wondering the rules about them.

Thanks

- sbski.

the airbrakes are allowed, but are not going to be very useful unless you link them to toggle during the staging - as I don't apply the brakes. I would most likely consider the airbrakes as a wing, as they apply a "drag" in the way of what would be expected if a wing were to be placed vertically in place. So to answer your question properly, yes they are allowed, they are considered as wings, but I only stage the vehicle, so you'll have to find a way to use them with that in mind :) I shall update the OP explaining that now
