Why so many Kerbal rescues ?

Recommended Posts

I have been playing career in hard mode and now have over 20 Kerbals because the rescue missions keep popping up and I cant leave a Kerbal to die cold and lonely in space, it just wouldnt be right!

So I am playing the latest steam version started as 1.0.0 but read 1.0.1 was supposed to tone down the rescues. My question is will I need to restart a new career to feel the effect of that tweak, or is this how it is with the tweak? Because frankly its getting a bit ridiculous !

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll send you to recover things like a single large landing gear floating through space before too long.

Don't ask where the rest of the ship went.

There is no penalty for simply declining the contracts.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are players who like to build large stations or bases and fill them with Kerbals. With the high cost of hiring Kerbals, the rescue contracts are a good way for those players to collect new hires, and make a little cash in the process.

I don't feel too bad about declining rescue contracts. I just assume another agency will pick up the contract.

Ok, here's the secret why. The locks on the hatches don't always work. One good bump and it's "hello space". The Kerbalnauts have suggested bungee cords, but the Grand Designer usually delegates those naysayers to up close observation of SRB engine testing.

I thought it was because somewhere in the code there's a few lines that every tome someone reverts in career mode, a hardmode player gets a rescue contract? :P

To answer your question booly, No, it will not break your save to update to 1.0.2 ("soon" to be 1.0.3), but it wont change contracts that are currently available/accepted.

I suspect that this has to do something with your reputation.

Before I got masses of rescue contracts, I almost only got tourist contracts. So maybe when your reputation is in a predefined interval you will get one type of contract way more often than the others?
