Computer ip: How do I find it?

How do we find out our computer's ip address? I would like to put up a minecraft server for a personal thing with select individuals, but I am needing to know what my ip is in order to tell the individuals where to find it!

One really easy way to find your IP address it to search in Google "my ip".

If not, and you are running Windows, open up the command prompt and type in ipconfig it should bring up your IP as well as some other stuff concerning your internet connection (MAC address etc)

Sampa, you may run in to trouble if the server is up for any long period of time. Most home internet service uses a dynamic IP which changes from time to time... I'd recommend using a dynamic DNS ("DDNS") service so that your friends can always connect no matter the IP. I've always had good luck with the free service from no-ip.com

Basically you register with whichever service and pick a name (something like sampaminecraft.nameofddns.com), then download a small program which goes on your computer. The program checks your IP every few minutes and updates the DDNS if anything changes. Some home routers actually have the ability to update a DDNS themselves without installing anything extra on your computer but they tend to only support services that "partner" with the router's manufacturer.

Once you have it set up, your friends can then use your DDNS address no matter what your IP happens to be that day/week/month.
