Question about the "Place Anywhere" RCS engine.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

I made a VERY light little Mun Lander.

I want to use the "Place Anywhere" little RCS engines to land on the Mun.

These engines produce 2 Kn each and I have 4, so that's 8 Kn total.

I have nice big rockets to get into Kerbin orbit, and a smaller engine to get to the Mun.

But when it's time to land I want to use these little RCS engines after I De-couple the previous Stage.

But I cant get all 4 to fire in unison. Either one will fire left or right or forward or backward.

They are on the side of my vessel. One every 90 degrees radially. They are all pointing downward.

I just cant seem to make them fire together. Is there a way to control them together?

Thanks guys.

if you're using the IJKL control scheme for RCS, H fires 'forwards' (same direction that the main engines would fire if you've placed your engine and control point normally), and N fires 'backwards'.

Use H to kill your vertical velocity, and use IJKL to kill any remaining horizontal velocity right before you land.

Thank you Reddey!!! Exactly what I was looking for... And yes I use the IJKL for RSC. Didn't know about H and N... Thanks again!

How light is the lander? I'm not sure those would work with any lander for the Mun. Minmus maybe. You'd be better off just using a pair of O-10's.

Not sure how light it is, i'll have to check. but its VERY light.

Simple unmanned probe body, 2 small fuel tanks. 3 landing legs (the tiny ones)

And a temp gauge, plus small transmitter.

Thanks it. I think its under 1 ton. But i'll have to check. thanks

PS: I don't think I have the 0-10's yet.
