What is happening here? Ground collision bug?

Recommended Posts

Is this a ground collision bug?

The wheels dip into the ground when you come on to a hill, get caught in the ground and cause what ever craft it is to explode spectacularly, it does not always happen but the longer your flight goes for the more likely it will happen (This was my 12th attempt at re creating it)

As someone who has attempted the Elcano challenge i know this was also a bug in 0.90 as well (possibly one that has gone under the radar)

but it seems to have gotten much worse, in 0.90 it would take about 20 minutes of flight time before something like this would ever happen, now its happening just after you leave the space center, interestingly you can not replicate these results at the space center though (around the buildings)

And no it is not the crafts fault, you will have to take my word for it but its still as reliable as it was in 0.90.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It looks like the gear's wheels got stuck under the ground. That used to be a huge problem with larger craft in the older versions for me. I guess it's not completely gone yet. It's a bit of a bug, yes, but it's been around for however long the landing gear have existed.

I thought so, seems to be much worse in 1.0.2 though than any of the previous versions, the only version i dont remember it happening in was 0.23.2

Ah, terrain seams! Yep, know those so well that I'd like to scream sometimes. Lots of fun with rovers on planetary missions when you hit a terrain seam going downhill at 7m/s, it spins you sideways, and you flip and blow up. Sad to see that it still hasn't been fixed...

Don't forget the ground around the space centre is not generated terrain, but a model, so doesn't have seams.
