Repeatable Crash Bug in Saved Game

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Windows 7

KSP 1.02 - Unmodded

Steam

Full Screen Windowed Mode

(I don't think any of this is relevant for this bug)

I started a new career in 1.02.

I am on a mission to scout (EVA and flyover Crew Reports) a couple of sections of Kerbal. It crashes reliably about 10-30 seconds after loading this quicksave.

I can't seem to attach files or I would include the logs and saves.

The thing that jumps out in the log:

Error Log:

Write to location 00000000 caused an access violation.

and

Output Log:

DynamicHeapAllocator out of memory - Could not get memory for large allocationCould not allocate memory: System out of memory!

Trying to allocate: 963216B with 32 alignment. MemoryLabel: VertexData

Allocation happend at: Line:489 in

Memory overview

I am going to try and run x64 version and see if it reproduces.

I will try that.

And oops - didn't realize they stopped work on the x64 version. So much for that idea.

And it's got to be a 32 bit limit or a leak or something, since i have 16 gb and was only like 50% utilized at time of crash. The KSP process was around 2gb though so...

Soooo. The F10 thing helped. It lasted longer that time. However, as soon as I tried to land amongst the tree laden ground, the closer I got to the ground the more trees were visible, the higher the memory usage went up, and it crashed when it hit close to 4gb private working set.

Need to find a way to reduce the memory usage. Any way to turn off trees?

Trees are terrain scatter and can be reduced or turned off in the settings screen.

So turning off ppfx and turning off the heat guages allowed me to land amongst the 60% terrain scatter trees and recover the craft at about 3.5ish gb.

I've turned down the scatter now to about 30%. Hopefully the combination of these things will keep it under the limit.

Too bad the x64 version doesn't work, we could mask all these memory inefficiencies with MOR POWA.

PPFX? Do you have an AMD graphics card?

PPFX is unreliable on AMD hardware for Linux and OS X unfortunately, I didn't know that it was also a problem on Windows.

Negative, Nvidia 670.

Maybe it did nothing and I just got lucky the second time. It did seem to reduce some memory usage though. /shrug
