Really slow game start?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so with 1.0 I removed all my mods, so I guess this goes here.

Right now, when I start the game the launcher takes (I timed this) a little over 8 minutes to load and start up.

I have no mods in the /gamedata folder

From what little I can tell the game takes most of the time going through the /squad/partlist loading all the bits.

Is this normal? I don't remember the game taking this long to start up even with mods.

Suggestions?

I have the same issue with slow load times but it's not any unused adapters, it's my router. I recently had my router die on me and borrowed one while I had a new one shipped to me. I started experiencing the slow loads as soon as the Linksys was connected. I could disconnect the cable from my PC to the Linksys during the launch of KSP for normal load speeds then connect it back once in game. I have my new D-Link and it's still an issue. Same trick works.

What I would like to know is..

What technology, Excatly, is causing this issue?

Himanchi and Tunggle are both Virtual Adapters that do trick networking 'schtuff'. I have tested both routers with and without IPSec and other various ALG technologies enabled/disabled without any luck. If anything, I would have figured it was one of the ALG's.

ALG = Application Layer Gateway

From what I've been able to figure out, Unity will first search network adapters to find game assets, but doesn't give up quickly enough and try the file system.

I only have one adapter, my physical one. It's a technology stack in the router. My old router worked fine, or if I just disconnect my PC from the router and plug straight into the modem, it works fine. The only thing that changed in my setup is the router.

I really can't help you with this, sorry, it's a problem with the Unity game engine's www-Class for loading local textures, though you can improve the load time by turning off vertical sync in the KSP settings as KSP will load one asset at a time, in time with the screen refresh (I don't know why this is the case).

Though as you can load at normal speed when using the modem directly it proves it's the router triggering the issue.

All I can really suggest is you wait to see if Unity5 fixes this.
