New extended physics range

Honestly? I could care less about my boosters being able to hit the ground while I'm 17,000m up moving at mach 6.

On the other hand, random quiet explosions happen more frequently as spent stages actually hit the ground.

For me, physics load happens at different ranges depending on where Im at.

I get 45km in space, and 22km in air, sometimes it reverts back to old ksp and drops stuff in at 2.5.

I just use stage recovery. I haven't been able to recover a stage from a deorbit burn, but stages from accent work perfectly fine. I'm not sure if you need to stage its parachutes when you decouple, but better safe than losing a few k

Very useful, too, if you want to colonise. Keep your stuff spread apart, and you can build large settlements with minimal lag, as long as you remember to keep stuff out of the in between zones.

A long time ago I used to have a mod which enabled you to adjust the physics range. There was an option in the top left of the KSC screen iirc. So you could drop it down to 1km, which helped hugely with large settlements. This option was part of some bigger mod, not the focus of it, and I cannot remember which mod it was. I did think it was Lazor, the same mod that gave the cool black and white docking camera, but I'm not at all sure about that.

If anyone can remember, or knows of an updated mod offering similar functionality, I would install it in a heartbeat.

For those who don't like the "magic" recovery of StageRecovery (where the part is recovered if it would have survived impact with the ground at the time it exited the physics load area) I suggest FMRS: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80292-0-23-5-Flight-Manager-for-Reusable-Stages-%28FMRS%29

I remember seeing Scott Manley's video about this and thought that this mod was stupid, however this was before I played career. Stage recovery is IMHO the best mod for recovering using only parachutes, but this mod would be best for any other recovery. I also think that extending physics range is a very bad idea since it would most likely eat up for processor and memory usage and is only not a bad idea in some rare situations

Na it's fine unless your running KSP on a really weak pc. And 50km is the limit however before you start loading things you have in orbit. And if there's a lot of stuff in LKO the physics range will bog your system down. So if Squad were to make an even farther ( I hope they do so bad ) range they'd have to make it so you can specify which parts/probes you want to remain loaded. ( This way MechJeb can fly my payload to orbit and I can land the booster without loading anything else )

But as is when it comes to spent stages a large load distance didn't hinder me at all and that was with a 150km load distance forced via BDArmory. I've got an I73770k cpu though, so... I'm sure that helps.
