20mins between crashes

Recommended Posts

My not so heavily modded install of 1.0.2 on a Win8.1 PC crashes every 20-30 minutes. I'm getting tired of it.

Here's my crash log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10324512/output_log.txt

How do you read this monstrosity anyway?

Right. Installed Mods:

- ActiveTextureManagement

- Chatterer

- DMagicOrbitalScience

- KWRocketry

- Mechjeb2

- SCANsat

- ScienceAlert

- StageRecovery

- ModuleManager

Whelp?

Check the memory usage every few minutes, maybe you are coming close to the 4Gb limit, KSP is a WIN32 program...

Check those two mods:

- Sentinel Memory Monitor, which will fire a warning in game when you come too close tot he dreaded 4Gb. It will even pause the game at 85% usage.

- Temperature Gauge Killer, which automatically deactivates the temperature gauges introduced in 1.0.1 and that are known to cause a memory leak. They activate each time you start a flight. Pressing F10 deactivates them but - this mod automatically deactivates them for you so you don't have to think about hitting F10 everytime. You can reactivate them by pressing F10 if you want.

Also, adding this to your launch options in Steam will dramatically reduce memory footprint (down to 40% apparently!!!!!!!!) and lets you play for much, much longer before crashes (which won't completely disappear, let's be clear on that) :

-force-opengl

All attached and lower case, no blanks. Kudos to whoever has found that. However, it has a slightly lower fps performance and disables antialiasing - which maybe you can reactivate through your ATI control panel, but I don't know if that's possible. I run on a Nvidia card and the Nvidia control panel lets me reactivate antialisaing through opengl drivers.

You can also try this:

-force-d3d11

(check that for more info on what NOT to do...)

But it is said to have a few more graphic glitches than opengl. Try and tell us :) I hope Squad brings some fixes to that memory problem...Good luck!

Folder size has no correlation with the games memory use, as many assets are generated while playing such as the terrain, ocean, craters etc.

Also there is a known memory issue with the PPFX edge highlighting while in flight, as parts get hot they start to glow, and this glow rapidly uses extra RAM, turn off PPFX and you will see a deduction in RAM used.
