How can I reopen fullscreen ksp after minimized

Recommended Posts

It always disappears (the icon of the one I had open) but later appears days later.

I have tried Windows key + shift + M, but that does not work.

I have tried Alt + Tab, but that does not work.

I have tried Windows key + M, but that does not work.

I have tried all possible combinations of the above, without success.

Windows 8.

It is just always annoying that I have to use a tablet to see the specs of rockets I am replicating just so I do not have to start over.

All of my cores go up to 100% and stay when this happens.

I'm not super familiar with Win8, but one tactic I've used in previous Windows is to make sure my program (KSP in this case) is set to Windowed Borderless mode. This makes it appear as if it's in Fullscreen, while allowing it (in my experience) to be minimized and re-opened like a regular window, barring a second or two or loading time. Having it in Fullscreen mode can cause issues when minimized (in my experience).

It could well be different with Win8 - if so, then sorry I couldn't provide better insight.

Hope this helps!

I'm pretty new to windows 8.1, but I'm able to ALT TAb back to the desktop and still see the icon on the taskbar. I run all games in full screen mode and haven't found any that I can't ALT-TAB out of then return to.

I don't normally use the tiled view for anything except shutting the machine off.

If the icon vanishes for some reason, can you use the task manager (CTRL-ALT-Delete) to switch back to it?

windowed borderless mode takes up too much space for me and the ribbon on the bottom of the screen covers ksp up, that would be my first choice.

I'm on win8 as well and I have no issue alt-tabbing in and out of KSP. It definitely isn't normal.

If all cores go to 100% that is likely the game crashing, so there would be no way to alt-tab back to it. In ye olde days of winXP, I had some games crash when alt-tabbing, but that was fixed with video card driver updates at some point and I haven't seen an issue like that for years. Do make sure you're up to date on video drivers. If that doesn't help, you might want to try an unmodded KSP install in case one of the plugins is making it unstable. Or skip all that go right for the workarounds...but seriously, update video drivers at least if you aren't up to date.

If you run in windowed mode, alt-tabbing won't be stressful to the system. It will hamper performance somewhat though... unless you go for fullscreen borderless windowed mode. Both NVidia and AMD have long since optimized their drivers to avoid rendering background windows when a game occupies the entire screen. Fullscreen borderless windowed mode gives you the all the advantages of both fullscreen mode and windowed mode, without any of the disadvantages. You'll be able to alt-tab instantly, get full performance, and not have a silly window border.

Sadly, game devs mostly aren't up on the best view mode and rarely include that option. KSP is no exception. Fortunately, unity supports it though and you can force it on easily... or resort to a third part app to do it (which works with other games).

To get that for KSP, follow instructions here:

or use the app here (works with other games to)

I have found a solution!

Open task manager, you should see ksp.exe or something.

Once you see that, click on the arrow next to it, and double click what comes up. It will bring you back to the game. After this, exit again, and it should appear on the taskbar. (It might be a blank space, but it works if you click on it.)

Cheers!
