Xylol 5: All stock, space plane, proven to lift 59 tons cargo to orbit.

Recommended Posts

I made this primarily to make a "pretty" cargo carrying fully reusable all stock ssto. It is proven to lift 59 tons of cargo to orbit.

Latest version for 1.0.3/4 is the Xylol 5: http://www./download/xn6a39krn9n265h/Xylol+5.zip

Xylol 5A: Comes with RCS and inside bay medium docking port. For bringing cargo to a spacestation

Xylol 5B: No RCS, no medium docking port. For bringing cargo to orbit.

There are two version of each one with MechJeb, one without.

---

Latest version for 1.0.2 is the Xylol 4: http://www./download/pwwqzdctjb9obeb/Xylol+4+%26+RB.zip

Weight balance has been improved by shifting the center of the fuselage back making it easier to control manually even when fully loaded. Fewer and better placed struts, many of which hidden inside the wings.

Xylol 4A: Comes with RCS and inside bay medium docking port. For bringing cargo to a spacestation

Xylol 4B: No RCS, no medium docking port. For bringing cargo to orbit.

Xylol RB: based on Xylol 3 and thoroughbred simply to achieve 32.14% cargo mass to orbit, not good for anything really.

---

The Xylol 3: http://www./download/8g6o128l5lxa736/Xylol+3.zip

Xylol 3RB: proven to lift 48.9 t or 29.02% cargo mass fraction. Design simply for the Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/116729-Stock-Payload-Fraction-Challenge-1-0-2-Edition?p=1994955&viewfull=1#post1994955

Xylol 3: Proven to lift 36 tons with plenty of fuel to spare. Comes with external docking port, RCS, air brakes and 4th wheel.

Flight regime is in the descriptions.

Very well:

Javascript is disabled. View full album

Also here is an enlarged cargo bay version with 25% longer cargo bay.

Xylol D: Extended cargo bay and added 4th wheel. While taking off retract 4th wheel after 100 m/s via custom07. Can still lift 36 tons if all tanks are full. Take off like a C.

Here is a complete family of extended and unextended Xylols, 6 in total for all your SSTO cargo needs.

A: bare-bones, for max lift, prove to lift 41.7 tons to 80 km orbit.

B: RCS and extra docking ports, to bring to cargo to stations, proven to lift 36 tons to 125 km orbit.

C: RCS and airbrakes and 4th wheel, good for bringing down heavy masses, proven to lift 27 tons to 80 km orbit.

2: Extended cargo bay and 4th wheel.

How to launch is in the descriptions.

I've made some improvements, and edited them into the OP, previous models have been deleted from upload.

The Xylol 3 has more aesthetically pleasing bow and stern, and a redesigned and strengthened tail fin for better yaw control.

In career mode landing a Xylol manages a 96% refund on the launch cost (not include the cost of what ever your cargo is that you leave in orbit), so the idea of a fully reusable SSTO in KSP as a money saver is sound, in theory. Of course many whine about how the SSTO parts simply lack the space to carry big cargo, even the MK3 is not enough for most. The Xylol was created to see how much could be done within the limits of a Mk3 cargo bay... so I started a project to go to Duna, explorer it and return, all using parts fitted inside of and launched via the Xylol 3. So far the results are promising.

First a small fuel depo and assembler station

Here is a Mobile Science Lab (also doubles as a fuel truck)

Ok so here is the MSL at the assembly station (did not notice Jeb stowed away)

Using the Assembler I take the core out, then attach the skates

Oh. Well, it just sounds so... peculiar that's all, apologies for, bothering you.

No harm, I just got no story.

How to get everything there: nuclear or chemical, I think I will go with a Chemical runner since I'm going to be making fuel there.

And I thought I was good at payload fraction. Nicely done. (Especially with the amount of wings you're using... that would drag my current 12-eng design to kingdom come...) I hate to ask, but do you happen to be looking for a company to join up with? A skilled SSTO engineer such as yourself would be welcome at Rockomax Heavy Industries.

I'll show myself out...

Well last time I was in a gaming guild was back with Team Fortress, the classic (I could grenade jump the scout like no ones business). I'm presently working on my own pack of Xylol compatible cargoes for all your space exploration needs.

Not one but two probes, each with 7 km/s of delta-V there is no place they can't explore.
