Exploding ships

Recommended Posts

A little while ago one of my satellites blew up. I don't know why. It was attached to an asteroid at the time but I was in the space center at the time. For the second, I was just tinkering with a maneuver node for another satellite when I heard an explosion and when I went to ship view there were pieces everywhere.

Why are my ships blowing up? They were in orbit around Kerbin.

Well, this may or may not be relevant to your particular case... but in my experience, the Claw is notoriously kraken-prone. I've never had a ship explode, but I have had several cases where it destroyed the universe (had to re-load from a save). I've taken to just avoiding all claw usage completely, it's not worth the hassle for me.

Both exploding satellites had a claw.

I had the same problem. the point is that when you attach a vessel to a asteroid, it still can wobble a bit. When you timewarp, the vessel 'collides' with the asteroid causing a explosion. Always be carful timewarping, especially physical, when you're attached to an asteroid.

The second ship that blew up was not attached to an asteroid. The claw had never been deployed.
