Temperature Indicators & Patches

Recommended Posts

The bug is literally killing my computer. Sadly KSP is near unplayable, I'm almost at tipping point. Does anyone know any workarounds so that you can see what's overheating (perhaps still with the gauges) but without crashing? :)

Why is it taking Squad so long to fix?

I also get other crashes and hangs without any heating involved, as mentioned in other threads.

Finally, whenever I open the Launcher app it says it is downloading a patcher, but I swear nothing happens, it never says it is installing...

I also was getting tired of this, so I am using the Disable Temperature Gagues mod to turn off the stock gauges and the Critical Temperature Gauge mod to show the most critical part. They seem to work well together.

Patcher is not working right now because they changed download servers, and the serverside software needed is not in place and set up yet.

Bug is confirmed fixed in 1.0.3, which is also been delayed because they're revising the heating system as a whole and doing more tweaks to aero. We're not expecting this one to break crafts and ascent profiles (at least as severely) like 1.0.1 did.

Be patient, its coming in about a week and a half now (last official word was in the Teusday devnotes and estimated two weeks; if the coming devnotes estimate one week, then we're on track).

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind if I can't bare to wait for 1.0.3.

Look at devnote Tuesdays posts here for info on Squad's work and game development.

You can also check the devs' Twitters, there is sometimes info about the game there.

Thanks, a great source of information! Nice to see they're talking about days not weeks. Although no mention of the patcher?

Ahhhh ok. Can I be sure that I don't need a patch via direct download?

Hit F10.

Fine until my stuff blows up.

Just turn off PPFX edge highlights, you need the gauges to see when you're overheating.

Can you explain what you mean? :)

RE: Turning off PPFX edge highlights....

In the root KSP folder there's a file called settings.cfg. Open this, hit alt-F, and search from "PPFX". This will take you to a line in the file about 1 page down from the top that says:

"EDGE_HIGHLIGHTING_PPFX = true"

Change "true" to "false".

Thank you. What really is this edge highlighting? Is it something quite visible in the game? Are you saying this will stop the memory leak and let me keep the gauges?

This is the green outline of parts when selected. It is quite visible in game.

Yes.

Happy landings!

You can also disable it in the in-game settings screen, or in flight in the escape menu settings.

With it on you get a nice coloured outline to parts you mouse over in the stage list, and which get hot in flight, also every time the edge heat glow effect activates your memory use goes up.

With it off you get a more gentle glow over the whole part, and no increase in memory used.

The gauges themselves won't be affected by turning off PPFX, but are completely disabled when using F10 as is the edge heat glow, and because the edge glow is off, so is the memory leak.

Interestingly, with PPFX off you still have the basic heat glow on the whole part even with the gauges off, so you can still see if parts are getting hot without having little bars all over it, and it also makes it easier to see your craft when in the dark :)

Fantastic! Thank you. I didn't want to edit files, and now I don't have to :)
