Turbo-Ramjet improvement

Recommended Posts

There aren't distinct modes, the thrust of the turboramjet varies along a single smooth curve. So a mode switch would switch between that curve...and the same curve.

Which is pure silliness, as that is NOT how a Turbo-Ramjet works

Turboramjet usually refers to something like the J58 from the SR-71, which at higher speeds used complex air intake plumbing to bypass most of the compressor stage and work pretty similarly to a ramjet. The intake system in that engine was controlled by an analog computer rather than pilot control, not sure if there has been a real life example that is done manually.

Would you please enlighten us as to how a turbo-ramjet works? Seems to me like it would be a combination of a turbojet and a ramjet, with the characteristics of each.

The point being that there is a distinct switch between separate modes, not the current arrangement which is is mostly mushy and indistinguishable
