Fresh install with zero mods added. Occurs with both 1.0.3 version and the new 1.0.4 version. Null Ref Exceptions spammed for all parachutes.

I have this error, but I have talked to a few folks who say they have not gotten this error. I tried a clean run and a modded run, happens with a brand new install to a blank folder of 1.0.4 through a clean re-download from Steam. So not sure how you don't get this bug? Anyone confirm that the F2 spam is universal?

It sounds like the 1.0.4 build is possibly missing a file or two, so if it gets patched over an already-existing game, then it won't matter because the file was already there on 1.0.3 (or 1.0.2?). But on a fresh install, because the file was never there in the first place, it messes things up.

Just my thoughts on what might be causing it.

According to Squelch:

"The cause of the parachute log spam has been identified, and is now in the process of being fixed."

To clarify and add context. While the problem has been identified, and a possible fix is being made, the results and the timeline cannot be quantified. A read of the latest DevNote should give some insight as to why this is.

The crashes on Linux are a secondary symptom, and are not fully reproducible. Investigations need to be made into the severity and cause.

The bug for linux crash is branched off the original bug, it is now http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/5195

Linux players having this issue, unite, call your friends, we need more data on how it happens.

The proposition about missing files seems good, I will compare folders when I get home, as I have old version still, and will see if there is any notable difference.

Meanwhile, here it came, where I supposed it will be later...

The age of Powered Descent!

Remembering what Elon Musk said speaking about Dragonv2 Capsule powered landing - "So, that is how a 21st century spaceship should land!"

I suppose here I go with his words. Trying to make a self-sustainable space program without parachutes...

Gonna be... Fun... :)

You may be interested in an unofficial fix made by Claw that skirts around the parachute log spam.

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/97285-KSP-v1-0-4-Stock-Bug-Fix-Modules-%28Release-v1-0-4a-1-1-Jul-15%29

As ever, this comes with no warranties, and qualifies as a mod. Please be sure to verify any other bugs in an unmodded game before reporting.

Footnote, the removal of the log spam may bring the benefit of preventing the crashes on some Linux installations. Please could someone confirm that here?

Claw made the fix ,not the spam.

;2056261']Confirmed.

Claw's StockBugFixModules 1.0.4a.1 fixes the ... crash on linux mint 32bit.

Excellent! I was hoping it would fix the Linux crash as well. Thank you for confirming. :D

Cheers,

-Claw
