Fog of war

I replied a couple of time to people looking for the code to do that. Strange that we still don't have it...

yeah i know, Im guessing you could have the game add and opaque EVE cloud layer whenever you go in map and remove it when you leave?

To a point, don;t we already have that? Back in the 60's, they had photos of the Moon, but none good enough to see what any landing site would be like. It was only when they first landed a probe they found out just how rocky it was, they did take photos when resolution got better, but at the end of the day, when Armstrong was landing Apollo, he found that the proposed landing site was too rocky, and had to go to manual piloting to move it to a better location... when I'm orbiting the Mun, what I see looks OK... till I actually start to land and to my horror, see that I'm heading for the side of a crater...

Its the same for all the planets and moons... but even before space flight, they had some photos of Mars... and the probes provided more including other planets and moons... so really... NASA didn't have a fog of war EXCEPT when they wanted a safe place to land... and given the limits of KSP, we have that.

Just my thoughts.

No, there are flag in the game to hide the planet and their orbits (and more ? I forgot the exact list). You could have more complex stuff by changing the texture until you scanned or observed it.

Planets should be discovered as the tracking station is upgraded. For example we can see Jool (it's big, after all) but can't see its moons or we can see only Tylo and Laythe, for example. As we have better 'telescopes' we can 'discover' other planets like Moho, Dres or Eeloo and moons too. Actually, I'm a bit surprised that merely 'photographing' of the planets is not in the game. After all, we don't even have a decent photo of Pluto and we really don't know what it looks like.

Actually, we do now. A probe is near Pluto and taking photos....

What is this war? Kerbals are peaceful explorers. (Were until that monster Bahamuto came along.) :(;)

Yeah, I think it would be cool if not visited planets were a pixelated blur in the tracking station.

There's a boolean for visible on CelestialBody objects IIRC. It shouldn't be a big mod.

From this thread:

I knocked this together in history class today. I really like the idea of "discovering" planets as the game progresses. You could have contracts to scan Eve so you can see what's under the clouds and all. I think it could be very cool, especially when integrated with Cacteye or something. I'm going to make some more of these pics now.

EDIT: Heres Eve and Gilly. More on the way.

EDIT 2: Here's Jool and friends. Probably not to scale but hey, I tried.

Oh, really? I figured it would be more complicated than that. Where would I look to find those flags? Discoverable planets sounds awesome.
