Kerbals in the Service Bay

Recommended Posts

Not sure if I missed something ...

Had a rescue mission the other day, decided to use a mk1 and service bay, figuring I'd have my errant kerbal EVA into it, close and re-enter.

All was well until just before EI, when he then popped out to his eventual firey doom! :)

Ok, so, Kerbals will not stay in the bay upon return?

If I place a control seat there, I'm assuming that might correct the issue?

Nothing I'm too concerned about, just wanting to see if others ran into this, I can adopt to a previous orbital rescue design, was just trying out the idea ...

Yes a seat would probably fix the problem (or make the service bay explode). I have transported Kerbals in service bays before but most often they'll just plop out after a while, sometimes even make the service bay explode.

Ok, important safety note received hehehe .... changing to answered, though you all may chime in with grandiose related experiences :)

Might be the difference, cargo vs service ... Haven't tried the larger service bay, wel, because that'd be a waste of mass to scale the rescue ship up just for that part imho ...

I tried a stuffing Kerbals into service bays, but it doesn't work well. Even the large one, although there is plenty room, they can't seem to be able to get inside. If you have a seat inside, you can right click and "board" it, and he will sit there, but this makes the service bay behave weird, start wobbling, sometimes blowing up. And even stranger if you then make him EVA, he will pop out from the top pod, I guess because that's the only accessible hatch.
