Sorry, but I just want to say I\'m using mechjeb to land 6 rovers in one launch, so I\'m moving my launch to right after speedolama\'s flight.

My lander uses the mechjeb to deploy 6 landers, so its a vital part to my launch.

Ill go after Speedollama.

ok, so if i cant use mechjeb, at my launch i wont use the laser, but if someone decides to use it before i go, then yes to the laser.

so basically my laser launch requires mechjeb too so, if i dont have mech ill make a probe with no laser and mechjeb will be my mod.

You two could always ask if the people launching before you are willing to add mechjeb as their mod, since at least two of them don\'t have a mod announced, and sirscott seemed interested in mechjeb.

Misterspork - see the original post, currently valid options for landing sites are listed in the 'how to request a turn' section.

Added your flight, misterspork. I\'m also requesting a turn.

Destination base: dogon11\'s Kerbin Base

Planned additional mod: Damned Aerospace

I\'ll lay out the runway! (wonder if that is possible...)

Sorry to post again, but due to the sheer size of my lander, im going to land it slightly west of the lake of broken landers, then I will drive the landers to the base. I want to do this as an expantion of the base and to add area to our landing site.

Ill join you at the new base.

what are its coordinates?

Zekes, read the upcoming flight list and you\'ll see it hasn\'t been made yet, but will be by the time your flight comes up...

So, do you want to change your upcoming Minmus flight to land at that Mun base instead?

SanctionEnvy\'s 48 hours is up and he\'ll be moved down one. It\'s Sirscott\'s turn at last!

MISSION REPORT: MUNAR COMMUNICATIONS UNIT

Good news everyone! After a hectic few days I have finally had a chance to sit down and fly. Thank you Khyron42 for being so flexible in this matter. After a little technical trouble I managed to get the persistance file to work and added the neccesary mods. For my addition I chose the mecha-jeb plugin. If you arent familiar with the system , it provides a limited number of 'autopilot' functions that can help a clumsy pilot like me get complicated parts into orbit , or as in this case , land them somewhere safely. In this instance it was also usefull to be able to land on an exact set of co-ordinates , something that I suspect would have proved impossible otherwise. Anyways , enougth banter , onto the mission!

Full Report below. If you don\'t want to see my holiday snaps , skip past to the summary

In this first shot you can see the Launch Vehicle , my Patented 'maximum overkill' setup. In the fairing at the top lays the communications relay package destined for the Cloria Base.

wjj2hd.png

On take off the mecha-Jeb was programmed to put the craft into a equatorial orbit at about 151Km , using the small guidence fins and gimballed thrusters to adjust heading. Here it is shortly before booster stage seperation

2wdy9ls.png

Shortly before mecha-jeb circularised the orbit I hit the staging button to prematurely eject the first stage. There was more than sufficient fuel left in the second stage for orbital operations and I didnt want to clog up LKO with junk.

2iaefbt.png

After a single orbit of Kerbin the Mecha-Jeb was given new instructions to line up for a trans-munar burn. Though I am more than capable of doing this part myself the advantage of mecha-jeb is that it you can alter the periapsis of your munar encounter to put it into just the right altitude for a landing , about 100km to start with.

15ywzy9.png

following circularisation of munar orbit I ejected the near-spent second stage and began preparations for landing

30k7eds.png

Mechajeb is capable of landing a well-built craft within metres of a given point. In this case my relatively small vehicle could by guided into place without RCS , aiming at a point close to Cloria HQ. Note the clunky mecha-jeb unit (with its green 'Engaged' light) , and the GUI in the corner that allows one to enter landing co-ordinates.

Prepare for touchdown!

mkurnl.png

Landing was succesfull and within 5 metres of predicted site. However , much to my chargin it appears that the target was too close to the wobbly HQ lander and when the terrain loaded during landing it fell over and broke up! My apologies there chaps...at least we now brought you a big radio to call for a pick up =P

The Munar Communications Unit. The latest in Cis-Munar telegraphy , it uses patented string & can technology to allow almost instantaneous streaming of calls between Cloria and the KSC. Calls charged at rates set by your provider. No collect calls. Exact change only.

Too bad about the HQ ship, but we knew it was on unstable footing. Now that MechJeb is in things will be interesting, as precision landings get easier for people. Congratulations sirscott, and it\'s always entertaining to see the detailed flight description! Did you want to book another flight?

Zekes, chat is fine, it was the constant changing of your flight plan in ways that weren\'t really reasonable that was disruptive. I\'m glad sirscott got in the mod that will let you and luciencd have more fun with your craft!

SanctionEnvy\'s second chance starts now! I didn\'t see any response last chance but I\'ve sent him a new PM for this turn, we\'ll see how it goes!

Just saying, my lander will be releasing 6 rovers, so if anyone is in need of rovers or is planning a rover launch, I just want to give a heads up.

Thanks.

lol how are you gonna do that? and how are you gonna control them all? O.o

Any part of a craft that had a mechjeb becomes a new controllable craft after release.

Since all you gets to do is position them once to wherever you like within the base area and then hand the persistence file on to the next person flying, it seems kind of excessive - but the whole point of this is to be able to add whatever you want to the shared bases, for others to enjoy as they land nearby or look at the post-flight screenshots!

It also gives you the chance on any later turn you sign up for, to drive one of them cross-country to join each new base that we set up. That would be kind of cool, to be the guy who only launched one ship but has a rover at every Mun base.
