PROBLEM: Model orientation in VAB. (Solved)

Recommended Posts

I made two tanks of different sizes which use the same texture. But for some bizarre reason no matter how I rotate the smaller tank in Unity, it always shows sideways in VAB.

Same models imported as .mu to Blender have the intended orientation:

SOLVED: Problem disappeared after I parented the mesh to a new empty.

In unity, are you rotating local or global?

Global.

Resolved the problem by parenting the mesh to an empty and assigning KSP part tools there instead.

I'll also point out that while both models may be visually oriented the same way in Blender, the smaller tank model may have a "hidden" rotational transform that Unity tries to undo, hence the discrepancy in-game.

Instead of parenting to an empty transform, just select the small tank, make sure the mesh is visually oriented the way you want, press [Ctrl-A] and apply rotation to make the change permanent.

I always apply rotation and scales before exporting from Blender. Found no issue in the blender model.
