Collecting science from device twice

Recommended Posts

I was trucking around the space center doing the various science that you can do since each facility is like it's own biome.

1) On runway: Log temperature

2) Drive to VAB

3) EVA scientist, walk to temperature device

4) Collect data (this is the data that was logged on runway)

5) Log temperature (now we are logging VAB temperature)

6) Collect data

Now in the same EVA I've collected twice, first to grab the data originally logged on runway, then again logged at VAB. So the experiments I've collected are not duplicates.

However, when I walk back to get in the cockpit, it tells me I have duplicates and asks me to dump them.

Workaround is to only collect once from each device in a single EVA, just don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Otherwise I could get away with walking to the backend of the plane every-other biome.

I've never really been going around the KSC for biome science, but I'm sure since the biomes are so small a lot of them are pretty similar in the system they act like its two of the same data. I've never had this issue on multiple biomes on different bodies, so I presume this is just something with KSC.

Stupid question: Are those two results (Temp Scan from Runway / Temp Scan from VAB) the only results you're carrying? Do they show up as different results when you 'Review Data'?

They do show up as different results with different titles if I do them separately asper workaround. I didn't actually check to see if it stored them both even though it prompted about the dump. I'll have to repeat and see. Maybe the dialog is a red herring and it is actually storing them both regardless.

Is it possible that your problem is that the kerbal is carrying something that duplicates a result that's already in the command pod? Is there already any science in the pod?

Every building is a seperate biome and you can do all the experiments in them. Even the crawlway and the flagpole are biomes.

I'm not so sure anymore. Used to be, KSC had like 20 biomes, including all the separate tanks, the Mk1 pod memorial, each antenna at the tracking station, etc. But now I'm only getting things with pavement (the main buildings, runway, Launchpad, and crawlerway).

Of course, I only do this at build levels 1 and 2 in the early stages of the game (the only time it's worth bothering with). Some things (pod memorial, tanks, etc.) don't show up on the map until build level 3 so I can see them not being there before. But the flagpole is always there and it's now claiming it's part of the astronaut complex. And at level 2, you have all 3 tracking station antennae but still only 1 tracking station biome.

You need to be reeeally precise for some of those, and it's not entirely clear what part of your vessel has to be in the biome. It's either the vessel CoM or the "center" of the controlling part - but it isn't the location of the experiment.

If you install the mod [X] science! it'll tell you which biome you are currently in and which experiments are available. Very handy, and seems like it could clear up a lot of this KSC biome confusion
