Design a new lineup of stock vehicles!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

So we all know the basic ships that come loaded with every save. The Kerbal X, Two stage lander, Aeris 3a, etc. But when you take a closer look, you realize that... these crafts are fairly useless.

The Kerbal X has a pod with landing legs, but can't make it back from the mun. The Stearwing d-45 can only make orbit with excellent piloting, but it's obviously designed to be an ssto. The Kerbal 2.... What even is the Kerbal 2? The super heavy lander is not very well built, and wastes a lot of delta v. And the list goes on.

CHALLENGE

Your job is to build a new stock vehicle lineup to fill the basic niches (Small rocket, lander, larger rocket, various aircraft, ssto, etc.) that will teach new players good strategies and practices for building ships.

RULES

- No excessive clipping. You can decide if your craft(s) violate this rule.

- Stock parts only. Informational plugins are fine. In fact, Kerbal Engineer is recommended to see delta v of your craft.

- No debug menu *cough* Kaboom! *cough*

LEADERBOARDS

SPH

JLtheGrunger, Pelican (Aeris 3a Light Jet)

VAB

GoSlash27, Rockomax Katapult (2.5m medium launcher)

Bev7787, Navigator Probe Launch Kit (1.25m launcher w/ Probe)

Red Iron Crown, Day Tripper (Mun and Minmus lander w/ launcher)

JLtheGrunger, Proton K (3.75m Heavy Launcher)

Good luck, and happy building!

I've got a small satellite ship Note: Normal design is stock. I just realised this modified one has a nova punch part. I'll post the stock version later

here's the pic. Launcher is cheap, partially reusable and carries a satellite with enough delta v to orbit dunaKqmV7lC.png

I have a basic, easy to fly rocket for practicing missions to the Mun or Minmus, the DayTripper (craft file).

1. T, Z, Space

2. At 100m/s press and hold D until SRBs run out.

3. Stage and set SAS to prograde.

4. Burn until Ap is 75km.

5. At 70km altitude stage fairings.

6. At 5 seconds to Ap press Z and burn until Pe is 75km.

Arrives in orbit with enough dV in the core stage to transfer to the Mun (or Minmus if done efficiently), and has a small two-stage lander with comfortable dV margins for landing and return from either moon.

The lander has some minor clipping to fit within the fairing neatly, not sure if it's enough to disqualify it.
