Prologue

"Questionable Targets"

Bill and Bob Kerman on EVA next to the Ship that has been secretly assembled and placed in Minmus orbit...

"Bill, why is the oreconverter not working?"

"... It does not deplete the oretanks evenly... i guess we have a serious problem. One more."

"What one more... what is going on here?"

"... Well, Jebediah wants more TWR, he said the Missionobjectives may change and the nuclear propulsion is maybe not sufficient. We need an additional department for this Vessel..."

"Until nobody knows where we are going to... its ridicilous in my opinion. We can get everywhere deltaVee, i really cannot see a problem with the TWR. Where is the rest of the planned Crew?"

"Bob, i have a weird feeling about all this, Jebediah refuses to give more information. Try asking himself. Some crew members are down on Minmus surface, we might pick some up sooner or later. Some experienced Pilots have been hired for this mission, and some total noobs... "

CHAPTER 1

"Sudden Rescue"

Kelzon and Guslong Kerman in low Kerbin orbit, Kelzon is obviously wondering about the equipment he is delivering...

"Hey Guslong, just be honest, what is this stuff all about? I really cannot imagine the purpose of this things, please explain it to me!"

"... Sorry but... i have no idea. My instructions are totally nuts... common, i have work to do..."

Guslong enters the Cupolamodule and begins to extract the components as supposed in his mission briefing.

Kelzon in the Shuttlecockpit remains speechless about the weird contraption of his Payload.

Guslong moves on his mission, wasting no time.

After a few days, Guslong contacts his destination...

"Codename Discovery, please reply...."

"krrrkkkk... ... ahh, what is your purpose in this orbit, explain identification, over"

"Kaptain Guslong Kerman to your service as desired, awaiting orders... "

"kkkkrrkkkkrr... "

A few moments later...

"kkrrk... ahhh,... Kaptain Guslong, aye, rendezvous with Shipwreck in Minmus orbit, orbit data are transmitted, look for survivors, salvage any and wait for further order, over."

Guslong was used to short commands, but this was quit not much to answer.

"Aye aye, as you wish..."

After some maneuvering Guslong arrived the to Shipwreck, and to his very surprise...

"... holy Kraken... Arcie, is it you?"

"Alive and breathing... "

"What are you doing out here, this orbit is closed for commercial use since many weeks... how long are you drifting around here? "

"Well, i was asleep the most of the time, no electric charge and running out of snacks... i decided to have a nap."

"A nap??? ... Weird... hmmm... , you are allright, get in the servicebay and relax, we finally found you... "

Arcie enters the servicebay, from the first happy moment she did not recognize the unusual design of Guslongs "Salvagevessel"... she just mentioned:

"Wow, thats a welcome! Looks so shiny and all new... "

Guslong contacts again his new Kommand, expecting a short conversation...

"Calling Discovery, salvage completed, one Survivor, awaiting order... "

"...Krrrkkrr... aye Kaptain, rendezvous with us as soon as possible, over... kkrrrkkr"

Chapter 2

"Down by the River"

"Kkkrkkkrk... ahhh, Kaptain Guslong, please attach the object in the fairing to the starboard frontdockingport, shutdown all systems and take a rest for some hours, have a snack or so, we got lots of dry cookies... kkrrrrkrkr.. hm... but very tasty... kkkrrkrk..."

Guslong and Arcie are too tired to go much further than this, and both fall soon asleep...

Kaptain Dooddock Kerman returns from Minmus surface with ​a last crewmember, Valentina Kerman...

"Hey Val, we are here, welcome to the Discovery... do you know why this mission needs so many pilots? "

"...Looks expensive, might be worthy not being crashed... i heard Jebediah has the Kommand of that vessel, seems like KSC Administration is worried about the hardware..."

"... Please do not call him Kommander in any case, he is not lucky about that issue."

"I try to avoid this funny Kommanderthing, and i am glad to see him again..."

Jebediah gives right after the dockingmaneuver a announcement by the vesselcomms :

"... ahh,... errm, hey all, this Jebediah Kerman speaking, Kommander of the Discovery, the vessel you are in right now. I make it short, this is a sientific exploration mission, occasionly we make some commercial contracts if time is given, shipwrecks will be salvaged, crew adopted, snacks shared and don`t call me Kommander anyway, i am Jeb, just Jeb. Right now we are preparing missionstart, in a few minutes we fire the engines for our first target, an asteroid in Kerbol orbit. T-63 days. Have a nice day, we can talk later, we have work to do."

Some Crewmembers could not hide a big smile after hearing that, Arcie tought:

"Cool Kommander..."

Jebediah takes a look at the navigationsystem, and he also starts smiling...

"...good ship... we are gonna be friends i think... "

Anything seems working properly onboard this huge construction, the Discovery is leaving Kerbins SOI behind...

Asteroid encounter...

The Crew of the Discovery gets busy preparing the catchmaneuver, Jebediah to Valentina:

"... ahhh, Val, we have to mine some ore if there is any, generate some deltaVee and plan the next steps, could you please manage the upcoming work of the crew, i must contact KSC for eventual order and new objectives... "

"Aye Jeb, we might have some days to stay here... we will not pull this chunk with us, or will we?"

"Surely not, we have no time for dragging rocks around with us... we have enough time to make some sience and stuff, as usual. Bobby can take the rudder, i go to have a nap later..."

"Okay, as you wish..."

"... and grabbed, the claw is on it. The youngest crewmember can rename it, Leia i think... , nice name for an asteroid."

"Wooow, look that ore tho..."

Chapter 3

"Ye holy Kraken"

Jeb, Val and Gus are having a missionreport in the multipurpose segment of the Discovery...

"Well Jeb, why that hurry? Val and me we got lots of questions about this journey... we are ready for a briefing now..."

"... ahhh, okay... "

"What is in the clamshell fairing hidden, the crew is allready rumouring about it?! ... Some guess a secret snackdeposit... "

"...ermm... The object in the fairing is a fairly new ... piece of tech... Its significant for this mission, you all will see it soon enough, no snacks at all in there for sure. In about seven days we get a launchwindow to Jool, i cannot tell you more by now, time was running out in Minmus orbit... but after the intercept burn it will return to normal pace, don`t worry. We have aside the sientific work another... order,... errm..."

"...Jeb...?"

"KSP Administration wants us to look out for... some unusual... objects, errrm... maybe... a..."

"What???"

"... a Space... Kraken..."

Val insists immediatly:

"No Jeb, thats definetly not serious, you are kidding..."

"Sorry, but you know the guys down there... its sounds ridicilous to myself."

"...Uuuups..."

"Uuuhhh..."

"...I know,... this can get quite interesting... thanks for your patience. Hm,... Gus, i think its time to for us... you have the bottle LF... errm, hydraz... errr... you know what i mean...?"

"Aye Kommander..."

Meanwhile at the miningrig...

"Jeb,... the Rock is mined out, we are ready to go..."

"Aye, that was fast, lift the anchor, we are moving on. Bob, give us a fuel convertion for a close Jool intercept maneuver, high kolniyaorbit and a... catchup for Bop... "

"Aye aye... as you wish... ... did you mean Pol?"

"...No Bob, ... Bop... did you copy?"

"Aye,... last maneuver... Bop encounter... that will get hard to accomplish with this Vessel, we might have some 375 tons, or more... "

"Bob, Bill build this monster, relay on him..."

Jool encounter...

Valentina Kerman takes a break from sleeping to have a look at the navigationsystem. Bobby Kerman is programming the Jool system procedure, his second meeting with the green giant and its children.

"How is it going?"

"Hey Val, good morning!... This mission is a real hard thing to calculate, we drag tons of equipment with us,... the Jool system is not easy to ship, until we can maintain a close circular orbit in this area... some water will go down the river... I estimate dry tanks, but Bop is small and takes only some handfull meters deltaVee to get off the miner, it should be save..."

"Hmm,... i hope you are right..."

"How`s the crew?"

"All nicely asleep."

Jool low orbit breakmaneuver

...Bop orbital plane

Bop arrival, the vessel stats became critical...

"Jeb, we are on target. We have entered Bop`s SOI in high polar inclination, around 160 kilometers from... whatever level this rock might have. Landing here seems ambitious to me."

"Thanks Bobby, well done. Our tanks are nearly depleted, where the kraken is the boo... the fuel??"

"errrm Jeb,... we might have overseen how much the vernor engines sip off, i recommend to shutdown the half of them as long as the Miner is attached, it could be worse..."

"Aye, good idea, Bop is easy to pull off, lets prepare the miner and move on... any other suggestions?"

The piloting crew remains silent, Heidi Kerman takes a word:

"I am afraid, Bop is somehow looking scary... and storys about creatures... "

Chapter 4

"Scary Island"

After deploying the satellites and a first view on possible mining worth places on Bop, Bill and Doodock made a first emergency drill to get a minimum of ore back to the Discovery. But the yield was very bad, it took them several days to load the half which was possible, and lacking LFO deltaVee they returned not very successfull... Enemy will continue for Bill the mining task, enhancing efficiency at better places, it does not look to bad however...

Valentina and Jebediah take a small lander and descend aswell to Bop`s surface, taking a first impression of this remote and lonely rock...

"Hey Jeb, this is definetly not a place to spend holidays, Pol would have been much more comfortable to refuel the Discovery... What are you looking for exactly, here is absolutly nothing that we could not see from orbit...?"

"Sorry i just want to test this lander,... pretty much deltaVee,... 1830,... even more with RCS calculated in..."

"Why can`t you be serious, your crazy laugh tells me you are hiding something, speak it out!"

Valentina shows off her temperament, and Jebediah becomes suddenly more constructive:

"Uuuh, okay, the KSP administration has some unconfirmed reports of unusual objects on Bop`s dusty surface and they want us to have an eye on this issue, before KSP starts a bigger mining campaign in the Jool system...

After we checked the situation here we move on to Pol immediatly, me too wonders about the weird instructions. It will not get better, be warned... ...we are close to touchdown, lowering landinglegs, surface retrograde maneuver, 50 meters, 45 meters,..."

Dooddock and Enemy are making several deliverys to the Discovery, aside the piloting and mining they are doing their own observations on Bop...

"Aaah... Dooddock, there is a big lonely boulder in the flat over there... Bop is crazy, you remember the equatorial area on the nightside some days ago?... Thousands of them, an this one glitters lonely in the sun..."

"Yeah... thats truly a nice one..."

The refueling of the Discovery became a tedious operation, five landings have been necessary to convert a huge amount of ore to various fuels... but luckily, an end comes in sight...

Valentina and Jebediah are investigating curiously Bop`s surface appearances from low orbit...

"Thats a huge impact for this small moon... its rather a big asteroid than a moon by the way..."

"Yes Val, must have hurt... did you see the shiny boulders around?"

"Yepp, but there is nothing uncommon to them, its a boring place... Jeb, you had a extended EVA down there, i was getting nervous after an hour... where have you been so long?"

"... I made a walk around a ridge... nothing special. I did not want to waste alot of monoprop, nothing to care about..."

Valentina and Jebediah return to the Discovery, the crew is allready preparing the departure.

"Kaptain Bobby, permission to dock..."

"Aye, we are glad to have you all back in one piece, as you wish... We return the orescansatellites remotly, and the deltaVee calculation will soon be finished... Pol is a nicer destination than this, i think nobody is sad to leave as soon as possible."

"Thank you, permission confirmed..."

Some hours later, Jebediah sneaks into the RCS tug, pumps some monoprop in an leaves the Discovery...

...without anyone knowing about...

...and returns undiscovered... carrying a secret with him... what could it be?

Maybe time will tell...
