One Time Only "Terrier" LV-909 Contract

Recommended Posts

The settings I am using are Extreme Hard.

Having the LV-909 in inventory as a part to be tested is very important for a Mun Fly-By early in the career (all buildings are at tier 0).

The "Terrier" LV-909 Contract appears after acquiring the General Rocketry node.

If the contract is completed it will never show up again until the Advanced Rocketry node is acquired.

The LV-909 contract is also used to achieve first orbit and usually I accept a LV-909 launch site test contract but his time I selected in-flight and was staged at the correct parameters.

I have declined many contracts and even resorted to using the mod Contract Filter and let it run for a half hour and the contract for LV-909 never appears.

Also I have noticed a similar issue with the "Swivel" LV-T45 contract.

I cannot tell if this is an error or the way it was programmed.

Is there any way to have the "Terrier" contract re-appear without resorting to editing?

Most contracts are generated procedurally. Only a very small number is actually predefined.

As such, there is no specific "Terrier contract", and no specific "Swivel contract". There is only one general "part testing contract", and which part you get to test is randomized from a pool of parts availabe at, or within close reach of, your current tech level. As such, it's entirely possible that you are simply unlucky.

On the flipside, these contracts are not "one time only". In my current save I must have gotten 5-6 Terrier testing contracts already, even though I've long since researched the node.

Make sure you decline other part testing contracts, to increase the frequency of getting them. This works for all contract types. Want to build a base on Mun? Decline all other station and base contracts first, before going through the rigamarole of declining random contracts for hours. :D

Also, you don't need a terrier for LKO. Just your standard chute/pod/decoupler, 1600 fuel (8 T200s, 4 T400s, or 2 T800s), some fins, and a Swivel.

That is what I thought too. That once you have the node before than you should see that part come up.

My observations are if you accept and complete the contract (Swivel or Terrier) and never acquire the node then the contract is stalled in rising to the top of the pool.

The "Terrier" and "Swivel" contracts do return and only after acquiring the node to which they belong.

Thanks. That "Terrier" contract is used to get a fly-by of Mun and Minmus.
